Dion Shines at Knoxville Nationals
Hindi locks into the feature for the 47th Annual Knoxville Nationals!
8/12/2007 - (Knoxville, IA) To say it has been a tough season for Neon Dion Hindi would be putting it mildly. He chose to be part of the World of Outlaws tour this season at a time when a record 26 teams are traveling the country full time. There have been bright spots in the season as Hindi who pilots the #11D RealTruck.com Automotive Accessories/Stage 8 Locking Fasteners had strong runs at Riverside Speedway and Eagle Raceway, but nothing compares to being locked into the feature of the Knoxville Nationals. Hindi timed in on Thursday night at a quick 14.894 seconds to be the 5th fastest qualifier of the night. Starting 24th in the A main of his qualifying night, Hindi would charge to 15th place. A total of 110 cars would sign in, all vying for the top 24 spots for Saturday night's showcase. After both nights of qualifying were completed, Dion would have earned the 19th starting position of the "A" Feature on Saturday night's grand finale. When the night was over, he would finish a respectable 17th. Being 17th best in the nation...not bad for the underdog!
Hindi was a dark horse coming into the Nationals. Fact is when people talked about who would make the “A” main his name was not even mentioned. That is fine with him, in fact, he welcomes it.
“I am still letting this sink in.” said Hindi. “We took time away from the road and stayed at Knoxville to get prepared for this. Kistler got our motor done and it arrived Tuesday of this week and it is a hitter. I don’t mind that nobody thought we could do this because it just gives me more motivation. T he crew busted their butts Thursday night changing some things and we were fast in the “B” and even faster in the “A”. You never know. As they say, you gotta be in it to win it.”
This is what makes the Nationals the Nationals--drivers can come out of nowhere and do the unexpected. Just ask Dion Hindi.
