FiberwerX Racing : Las Vegas 3 Of 4
FiberwerX Racing : 2007 SCORE Las Vegas Terribles Cup3
This event was bitter sweet for the FiberwerX Crew. Overcoming adversity and setback after setback, our crew raced to the top of the podium during 3 of 4 heats at the Terribles Cup3.
Many of the offroad industries finest collected in Las Vegas and battled July ‘s
triple digit summer temperatures. FiberwerX arrived at the Las Vegas Speedway at 8:00am after an all night drive and entered the 2007 Class 7Open Ranger as 709 in a field of 12.
The team, prepped and primed for action, felt confident after one practice session that our truck would take the podium during the heat races later in the evening.
Working with Toyo Tires and their technical advisors we were able to sample a variety of tire combinations to find the best package for the course conditions. Jason McNeil explained how the Toyo Open Country M/T provided superior traction around the slick muddy track.
During the 1st heat and after some confusion in staging, Jason was able to maneuver the truck from the last starting position all the way up to 4th in less than 1 lap. By the end of lap 2 the FiberwerX truck was jockeying for the lead positions.
Broc Ross and Barry Karakas were extremely fast and provided for great competition all throughout the weekend. Jason McNeil would battle for the lead with both and eventually found his way to 1st showing his opposition plenty of pressure and driving through the rough lines with finesse and speed.
After breaking clean air and no traffic McNeil extended his lead for the remaining laps to a checkered flag and a 1st place finish.
This story would repeat itself once more that night for the second heat with the same results. Again on Saturday night we killed the competition and made our way to a 1st place finish. Unfortunately, a rival in the same class felt his mistake would justify complaining to the tech officials. Long story short FiberwerX along with half the field was Disqualified and we were stripped of the 3rd heat victory.
A brief adjustment during the 1 hour down time between heats, the FiberwerX truck was now eligible to compete in the 4th and main event. Starting from the back of the field had become routine and Jason was able to pilot his truck through the traffic and make his way to the front with only two vehicles in the way of another podium finish. Broc Ross had a powerful truck and screamed off the line, he seemed unmatchable but it was all for nothing as he had been DQ at the start. Barry Karakas and Jason were battling it out for the “lead” when McNeil went for the pass and made it clean. Unfortunately flying off a jump on the back stretch at near top speeds, the truck hit a rut and sucked the suspension under causing the truck to barrel roll and flip 3 and a half times. Landing on the side, oil spilled out of the breather on the exhaust down tubes bursting into flames.
Crew Chief JuanCO acting as the spotter immediately warned the driver and co driver to exit the vehicle. The flames were extinguished by a track official, but our weekend was done.
It was an exciting weekend for the entire team. We expected to do well even though our truck was underpowered compared to the rest of our main competition.
Jason McNeil impressed the crowd with his amazing driving skills. The Toyo Tires performed flawlessly and provided dominant traction all weekend. The Fox Shoxs allowed us to fly by the competition while they were breaking for the rougher technical sections. Rockstar Energy kept our crew vigilant and pumped even through several all nighters. The KMC Wheels held all integrity keeping our tires locked on even though we were running low air pressure for a wide footprint. The Light Force XGTs held their own in the wreck and gained a lot of attention from the announcers making it easy to spot the fastest truck in our class. Most importantly the DJ Safety components worked perfectly keeping our drivers safe and secure in a very violent crash that could have had a much different outcome.
Thanks for everyone’s support. It is truly a team effort and you can count on FiberwerX to put on the show at PRIMM.
