WMRRA Round 2 - Pacific Raceways 5-6 May 07
On Saturday, May 5th, I got my first experience to actually help the WMRRA staff. I helped Chris Denzler and about 5 or 6 other racers set up the air fence the morning of the race. Man, what a PITA, but a necessary evil to help save lives and prevent injuries. I also got my first experience at what it actually takes to put on a race weekend. I assisted in corner working and set up and tear down of the track on Sat and Sunday. I would like to take this time to give a big THANK YOU to all of the WMRRA race staff and more importantly the volunteers who give up there time to come out and make every race weekend a success.
On to Sunday, May 6th. This should be my final race for Novice so I can graduate and start running in the expert class. Since I cornerworked all day Saturday, I missed all but one practice session. Of course Novice goes out for the first practice session of the day, at 9am and the Drag races from the night before had left the track a mess. We were delayed over an hour to get on the track due to the fact a drap car had engine problems and they let it sit in the middle of turn 2 for a few hours before they decided to drag it the ENTIRE way around the road course. THANKS!
Anyways...after the track was cleaned up, we were allowed out. There was the remainder of speedy dry thru a good portion of the track. I did a few warm up laps and then called it quits. During the day it did the normal Pacific NW thing, lloked to rain all day. It held off all day. Time to RACE the final Novice race for me. We got called onto the track and after our warm up lap, well wouldnt you know it...RAIN. WTF...no one was on rains, so DOT's it is. The start of the race had some heavy rain. I got a great launch and was in 3rd place. Turn 3 saw 1st place guy low side, hmmm slick track. By lap 3 of 8 the rain had stopped, only problem being with a smoke visor I couldnt see the dry lines that were appearing. I started pushing harder and harder until I started to tuck the front in a bit of wet patch in turn 5...2 laps in a row. Time for me to back off and finish this race on 2 wheels. I ended up finishing 4th, having a good battle between 3rd and 4th the final few laps.
Overall, it was a great weekend - and better yet I GRADUATED!!! What else can you ask for!
I would like to take a minute to thank all of my sponsors.
