Overview

How I got started

I`ve been riding mountain bikes since I bought my first one in 1993. I only rode recreationally until I met up with Jimmy Brown here in Cool, who encouraged me to try racing. I tried and, liked it and plan on doing more.

Goals for the Future

I expect to move to Sport category just based on my innate fitness and ability, but after that point I will most likely engage in a planned fitness/training program to continue to be competitive at the sport level.

Bio

What inspires you to compete?

I like to solve puzzles, and I never realized before I tried racing how much of it is not just power or endurance. I enjoy the challenge of the race courses. I enjoy evaluating my competition, and making strategic and tactical decisions on the course.

Some Personal Information About Me:

I have ridden my `73 Fuji road bike from the Atlantic coast to Dallas, then from the Pacific coast to Pueblo Colorado, plus other touring rides. This year I achieved my goal of earning the California Triple Crown Jersey by riding at least three double centuries in California. I`ve hiked the Pacific Crest Trail from Mexico to northern California. I`ve climbed Rainer and Shasta and many other "fourteeners" in Colorado. I am married, with one grown daughter and two grandchildren.

Competitive Highlights

In this my first year of racing I`ve achieved podium finishes in California, Nevada and Utah. I have both a single speed for recreational and training rides, and geared bike for racing. I am a goal-oriented person and usually set my sights on something just beyond my comfort zone. I`m strongest when I am reaching for a goal.
