Q&A - Personal
What has been your most embarrassing moment?
My first triathlon was a sprint triathlon. I didn't know how to tread water correctly, so I ended up doing the dog paddle for 5 minutes. Needless to say, I was already tired by the start and I freaked out on the swim, grabbing onto a kayaker after the first 100 meters. Furthermore, I lost my goggles somehow and ended up having to swim the rest of the way "blind". Finished the 800 meter swim in 36 minutes and proud of it!
Why do you like this sport?
Well, cardio training by itself is boring. But triathlon training allows me to focus on a goal and takes the monotony out of training for one sport. Also, the people that do triathlons are great people to be around.
Describe your style...
I'm a jeans and t-shirt kinda guy. If I could have it my way, I would go to work every day in jeans and a t-shirt. But I guess some patients might think that's "unprofessional"...go figure.
What do you want to be when you grow up?
a lottery winner...
How's Life Treating You?
Other than work, loans, a select group of needy patients, and finding more time to train...life is treating me great!
Q&A - Competition
How did you get started?
I had just broken up from a 5 year relationship and had nothing going on, then my buddy convinced me to do a 10k run. Once I started training, I started looking for a bigger challenge. Well, I didn't want to screw up my knees by doing a marathon, so I figured I'd give triathlons a try...and hence, a triathlete emerged.
List your competitive highlights
I'm typically a back of the pack age grouper, so to call any of my highlights "competitive" would be an insult to those who actually compete. At this point, the fact that I'm still crazy enough to do this sport is a highlight in and of itself for me.
What are you planning for next season?
I've got my first half ironman coming up in Oct 2007. Planning on a couple of 70.3 (half ironman) races in March 2008 and June 2008. My most lofty goal to date is to do Ironman Wisconsin 2008.
What has been your biggest accomplishment?
Again, to reiterate what I stated above, "biggest accomplishment" is all relative. For me, sticking with this sport has been an accomplishment in and of itself.
