Brittany Trentman’s dirt bike racing career ended the day she broke her collarbone after a nasty spill.

She landed a jump awkwardly and her helmet became stuck in her chest protector. The impact caused her collarbone to break as well as rendering her unconscious for a moment.

“I didn’t know what was going on,” said Trentman. “I woke up, and all these people were around me. I thought I was fine, but then I couldn’t move my arm.”

She still rides, even though landing a jump wrong now means pain for a couple weeks. What brings her back to the motorcycle - in spite of the wear and tear it causes her body?

“The adrenaline rush,” said Trentman. “It is just so much fun to do.”

From rider to owner

Trentman may have walked away from competitive riding, but her competitive spirit did not let her walk away from the sport completely.

“I wanted to stay in the industry,” said Trentman.

She decided to start her own motocross racing team - Trentman Racing. Her duties include lining up sponsors, keeping in touch with her riders and coordinating their schedules and events.

“It’s been successful,” said Trentman. “The team has grown every year.”

She hopes to expand the team even more in the coming months.

“The main goal is to get the pro team started,” said Trentman.

She currently has one professional rider and five amateurs on the team. They travel to Pennsylvania, Indiana and Michigan as well as hitting local events. The team tries to race at least 20 times a year.

The big amateur event of the season is the AMA Air Nautiques Amateur National Motocross Championships held in August at country music star Loretta Lynn’s Ranch in Hurricane Mills, TN. Trentman hopes the team can bring home some hardware.

“It would be nice to bring back trophies and make the team even bigger than it is,” said Trentman.
