AMA/ NASMOTO finals

Well I just got back from the AMA/ NASMOTO finals in Canby OR. All I can say is that it was a very long drive but it was worth it in every way. The trip was almost 20 hours in both directions, on top of that we had 6 guys piled into one truck.

Upon arival of the track things were looking pretty gloomy. It had rained the entire night before and the dirt section was flooded, the asphalt was covered in puddles, and it was just plain cold. We ended up running some erands as the track dried off and got camp set up since we would be here for 3 days. Around 3 PM I suited up and decided I needed to put some track time in and see what this place was all about. After about 20 minutes I had most of the track down and was starting to lay some good time down . As the track got dryer and dryer my times droped a ton.... I was beating most of the locals already and looking forward to the race on Sunday

5 AM SAT- I wake up to shotguns going off very near by... so I get out of my tent to see whats going on. Well I live in San Diego and saw something that I had never seen before. About 100 yards from my campsite (in the pits) there were 2 guys hunting geese, they had 4 or 5 laid out on their boat and were going for more... just kinda weird to me

Anyways Sat practice started around 10 AM but I waited till about 12 to get on track.I felt that I had the track down very well. Around 1 PM qualifying started , By the end of the day I ha dqualified second in both my classes and was once again looking forward to the race on Sunday.

12 Midnight...... UI awake to more gun shots, this time it sounded like a 22 and a shotgun.. so back to bed

5 AM Sunday... more gun shots.. I'm up

My race groups were the first and third classes to be run. So I eagerly pulled my bike out of the trailer and set up our pits, put on my tire warmers, added some fuel, and went to find some food.

My first heat race was for OPEN AM, I got a horrible start and wheelied the bike out of the hole allowing a few guys get by me. I was able to pass most of them back and get back up to third by the end of the race.

My second race was my NOVICE class entry, this was the class I drove to Oregon to compete in and was looking very forward to racing in...... Flag goes up and I get the HOLESHOT!!! I lead about 4 or 5 corners into teh dirt and then it happens. I come into a dirt harpin, some guy with a sportsman set up goes inside, sweeps my front tire, I go off a jump sideways.... I'm on the ground with my bike pointed off course

I Im pissed... I didn't drive 20 hours to do nothing. So I go on a mission, I'm going to get up front by the end of this and kick some ass. I worked my wasy from around 9th or 10th all the way back up to third by the end of the race. I have never ridden so hard, made crazy passes, yelled at pepole, and just elbowed my way to the front like I did in this race. So I ended up in third and on the front row for the main

My MAIN for OPEN AM was pretty uneventful, I had a decent start, fell back to third and finished second due to better conditioning than the guy who had second.

My MAIN for NOVICE was a blast. I had a great battle for second and fell back to third quite a few times. It was just a great race. In the end the guy I was battling with crashed out in the dirt and I never saw him again. I had spent so much time concentrating on this guy that the leader checkout never to be seen again... I think he won by close to 10 seconds or something

So now I have 2 AMA titles and get to go to the AMA banquet next month and stand on the same stage as a ton of my heroes....I cant wait
