Tom Sutherland suffered a tough weekend at the Brumos Porsche 250 at Daytona International Speedway. The one day Grand Am event in front of NASCAR didn’t end with the result Sutherland and Racers Edge Motorsports was hoping for.
“It was a tough race for sure, too hot to be honest. About halfway through my stint the inside temperature started to affect my driving.”
Reported numbers of 160 degrees fahrenheit inside the cockpit explain Sutherland’s early pit stop.
“I was beginning to lose complete focus, I knew it was only a matter of time before I got heat stroke.”
Although Sutherland and co-driver Dane Cameron finished the race 12th in class, they impressed the Grand Am field earlier in the day with a 5th in practice and a 3rd in qualifying.
“The day started very well for us. We had a small oil problem in the first practice but it didn’t take very long for the guys to fix it. We dialed in the car pretty quickly and I was able to put down a decent time in qualifying that put us 3rd on the starting grid.”
“I want to thank all the guys at Racers Edge and especially Jon Mirachi for giving me the opportunity to drive the #30 ClickAway Mazda RX-8 once again. It’s truly an honor to drive for this team and I hope to be back with them in the future.”
Next up for Sutherland is the American Le Mans Northeast Grand Prix at Lime Rock Park. Sutherland will be driving the #22 Panoz Esperante GTLM amongst the Panoz Team PTG factory effort. No second driver has been named to co-drive with Sutherland yet.
