I am new to BMX racing. I have only raced 6 times. My background is Moto x, dirt jumping, and vert. I think I may have ruffled a few feathers this weekend because of my love for jumping. In my main event I was jumping eveyrthing, table tops, step ups, and doubling through the rhythm. I took over second coming out of the last turn and proceeded to jump the last three table tops. When I landed the last jump I got rammed from behind, and the guy crashed hard. I rolled to the finish. I heard someone in my class say something about jumping and that guys going to kill some one. I felt like dirt. I appologized to the guy who went down, but never saw who made the jumping coment. The last thing I would ever want would be to endanger others with my riding style. I know us old dudes have to keep it safe and watch out for each other, one bad crash could end our fun. I guess the point here is I learned a little more about BMX. Does this mean I will roll instead of jump? Hell no, but I will consider staying low when battling for a position. Again I appoligize to the guy who went down and I hope to see you all at the races again soon. I will be the dude sporting my new CAUTION JUMPER STAY BACK 50FT shirt.

I got my start racing mx at the early age of 5. I raced mx till I was 16. Durring this time I was riding my bicycle alot. Dirt jumps, mx tracks, and cruising the neighborhood. Around the age of 15 I started seeing "bmx freestyle" and this pulled me in. I traded my mx boots for vans and built a quarter pipe. Before long I was traveling to ride with others in Birmingham and Huntsville. This lead to a sponsership with The Peddler and I started doing demos throught the south. In 1988 the NBL sponsered an event called the Souther States Freestyle Comps. I went to all these events coming up with 1st place in ramps at the end of the tour. This was not like the vert comps of modern times. The format was a wedge ramp at one end and a quarter at the other. The big tricks were can can look backs, no footers, 360 fly outs, and disasters. After these events it all kind of faded away. I kept riding dirt jumps, street, to the beer store, whatever. The thought of racing BMX never really crossed my mind. The closest track was Birmingham which was about 2 hours away. Now thanks to the X Games and the Olypics there is a surge going on in BMX and skateboarding. City officials have taken notice and are building tracks and skateparks everywhere, awesome. I am 37 and I rode on my first BMX track this year, bought a new bike a DK cruiser, (my old bike which I still ride is a 1988 Kuwaharo Bravo). I have now raced in two ABA races and I'm looking forward to a full season in 2009, pulling my 4 year old boy Owen along the way. So if you live in the Alabama area I'm sure I will see you at a race in 2009. I may not be the fastest but give me a chance and I will put you in the dirt!!!! Just kidding, having some fun.
