Q&A - Self Interview
Where are you from?
Born in Mexico City and moved to San Antonio, TX at age 4. Then lived 2 years of high school at Saddlebrook Tennis Academy in Florida. Currently, I'm a student at Southern Methodist University in Dallas, TX.
What got you into triathlon and what keeps you competing?
I caught triathlon on TV one day in high school and put in the back of my mind that one day I would do an Ironman. Freshman year of highscool a gym acquaintance got me into a sprint and the rest is history! As each day goes by that I continue to learn, improve, and share incredible experiences with fellow athletes and friends my passion grows exponentially. It's a lifestyle, a constant challenge, and I love working hard and reeping the rewards.
What are your goals- short term? long term?
Short term I want to learn as much as possible from my coach and other seasoned triathletes...have a great 2008 season, gaining speed back in the legs in Olympic distance, and climb ITU rankings to hopefully get my pro card in the next year-year1/2.
Long term, I want to qualify for the London 2012 Olympics.
What's your athletic background?
I grew up water-skiing, swimming, doing karate, ice hockey, gymnastics...haha you name it! I was one hyper active kid. Eventually I took up tennis very seriously and was ranked top in Texas and the nation. After my burnout in tennis the last year of high school, I turned into a gym-rat...triathlon sparked my competitve fire once again and I knew this time I was mature enough to know how deeply involved I would get in it and handle it as such.
What do you like to do outside of triathlon?
I love to travel, cook, read, go to the movies, play loud music in my car, eat sushi/pizza/steak/gelato, hot tubs, cold showers, play any type of sport, and be with friends and family.
