Overview

Background:
1972 Began riding motorcycles at the age of four. Mostly rode on ORV type trails in MesaArizona. Began racing some local bicycle races at the later stages of this year and continued with both activities for several years to follow.

1978 Entered my first AMA District 14 motocross race at
WhiteBirchCyclePark in Michigan. Enjoyed the family setting and the competition and continued racing until years end. My first year ended with a state ranking of #9 in the 65cc class and #16 in the 80cc B class.

1979 Returned for my first full year racing motocross. Finished ranked #3 in the state in the 65cc racing against the likes of Jeff Stanton, Willie Suratt, Todd DeHoop, Eddie Warren and the list goes on. Ranked #11 state in the 80cc B. Went to the Florida Winter National Mini-cycle Olympics and finished #5 in the 65cc overall. Also finished #5 in the 80cc B overall. Qualified in both classes for the nationals but didn`t attend due to injury.

1980 Competed strictly for points this year aimed at capturing a national title. This was also the first year for sponsorship provided by Yamaha of Flushing. This year included competing in the overall district 14 points finishing ranked #3. Won the overall Alpena Super Six Pack championship in the 80cc B. Also finished #4 in the 80cc A. Competed and earned two national numbers in the 80cc B stock (ranked #5 in the nation) and 80cc B modified (ranked # 7 in the nation). Competed and won a gold medal in the Florida Winter National Mini-cycle Olympics.

1981 This year started with a class jump to the 80cc A class. Sponsorship was again provided by Yamaha of Flushing for the first half of the season and was concluded with Holder Suzuki when a bike change was made. Again competing for District 14 points, my season ended with a state ranking of #2. Qualifying and competing in the nationals, I earned a national ranking of #13. Moved to
Texas where I competed in multiple local events winning most of them. Also acquired Stovalls Yamaha as a sponsor.

1982 Continued racing locally this year. Qualified #1 for the
GNCCLakeWhitney Nationals in the 80cc EX class. Won over 95% of the races I entered that year and traveled all over Texas to race. Began racing 125 EX in preparation for moving up. Acquired Good Times Kawasaki as a sponsor. Won the arena cross in Lubbock in the 80 EX. Placed 4th in the 125 EX class in the same event.

1983 Raced locally for Good Times Kawasaki in the 125 EX class. Again winning over 95% of the races I entered. Qualified for the GNCC Lake Whitney Nationals and competed finishing 18th overall.

1984 Raced locally for Levelland Suzuki again in the 125 EX class. Qualified first in the GNCC Lake Whitney Nationals (
NorthTX) series. Finished 12th on a borrowed bike, at the nationals. Won the Amarillo and Lubbock Arena Cross races. Placed 5th at the Abilene Arena Cross.

1985 Retained Suzuki sponsorship and again competed locally in both the 125 EX and 250 EX class. Placed in the top 5 in all events entered. After a family emergency and a move back to
Michigan, quit racing due to financial difficulties.

2002 Started riding again after a 16-year layoff. Entered first Hare Scramble and placed 2nd in the 30B class. Moved up to the 30A class to compete for the remainder of the year. Acquired local sponsorship and was supplied a Cannondale bike for competing in Hare Scrambles. Recent motocross events have resulted in all top 5 finishes in both the 250 open and Over 25 classes in
Dallas, Austin, and San Antonio races.

2003 Competed in a few local series like the Suzuki Spring Series and the SOBE Series in the
Texas region. Finished in the top five in all the classes I entered. In addition, selected races were attended and the results were good as well.

2004 Competed in multiple state series events and won the in multiple classes the AMA Texas State Championship Series and the Simpson Sponorship Series. Also won the Area and Regonial qualifiers for Loretta Lynn`s in both classes I competed in. Finished in the top 25 at Loretta`s while injured.

2005 Kept it reginal this year. Did fairly well agianst the likes of Austin Squires and others in the GNC. Also had a great time competing with Shawn Martin from Honda of Houston and Michael Clemets along with a lot of other great riders. Just kept it fun this year so far.
2006 Again this year keeping it reginal.  I have the two boys who are riding now and it is making it hard to hit all the races I want to get too.  Trying to get the most out of the weekends is tough but we are hitting the tracks on Saturday so all of us can ride and then racing selected events on Sundays.  My 3 year old is gonna be riding very soon.
2007 This season started off extremely rough.  While getting ready for the Cycleranch Thanksgiving race I crashed hard on my new bike (less than 2.5 hours on it) and spent some quality time in the ICU.  I got out a week later and didn't even get to ride until March.  It has been a long recovery but we are back at it.  The boys are both riding (with training wheels on some of them) but what a blast.  Goals are being met with keeping the sponsors proudly displayed and supporting them all I can.
Goals for the Future
Goals for 2008:
·          Professionally suppor my sponsors using and promoting their products in a professional manner.
·          Continue to work toward finishing in the top 5 of every race I enter.
·          Return to Loretta`s for more fun maybe.  I may wait one more year and qualify in the Vet 40 class.
·          Grow my love of the sport in both of my sons who are now engaged in riding when ever they can.  We are going to purchase some land so my little one can ride more.  He is an addict and loves it.  Teaching the kids is now what I love.   I am also meantoring my nephew and a couple of other young riders and that is really brining a lot of exposure to the sponsorship relationships I currently have.
·          Get into better shape to compete at an advanced level.  The older I get the faster these young guys seem to be.
·          Race competitive events in the Texas/ Oklahoma area.
Ride the 250 A/+25A/+30A/+35A classes when possible.

Bio

What inspires you to compete?

I love the competion. It is very addictive and it runs in my blood. My dad gave me both the ability to race by the early year support and the blood stuff :-)

What has been your most embarrassing moment?

Regonals in 2004. We purchased a race schedule on Saturday when we got to the track. The organizers moved on class around and my class was moved up. They didn`t announce it and were selling different race schedules on Sunday. Anyway, when my 1st moto (of 3) rolled around I was putting my helment on and going to the start line. I noticed my class on the track. I freaked out and hauled butt to the start line. Started almost a lap behind and would eventually wind up 11th. I was so mad!!! I thought I had blown my chance at qualifing in that class. In the end it worked out ok as I won the sencond and third motos and finished 2nd overall.

Why do you like this sport?

I love going to the races and talking with everyone. Great friendships have been formed that way.

Some Personal Information About Me:

Racing for the fun of it now. Enjoy spending time with family and friends and love working as a volunteer leader for my sons` cub scouting pack. Outside of work that consists of Network Engineering, the family and I like to get outdoors and boat, camp (Another advantage of racing) and spend time at the lake. Training and bike maintenance take up the rest of the time in each week. Enjoy watching the kids learning this great sport, how the families work as teams and all the great memories I have of doing this for all these years.

How's Life Treating You?

Life is treating me great. I am blessed with a supportive family and the means to get to most of the races I want to attend. I have been very luck as far as injuries go (knocking on wood) so I have no complaints.
