Q&A - Personal
What inspires you to compete?
Competing is what drives me as a person. I don't just settle to finish, I want to win, I want to be the best. After feeling lost after I was finished with college soccer I tried to find a career. I realized that I am an athlete, that is what I'm good at. I have set high goals and Triathlon is my new passion. I cannot wait to push the limits.
Do you train? What does your schedule look like?
I train everyday. I was in Hawaii at the same time as the Ironman. I watch the athletes train, trained with some athletes and decided that I wanted to get into the sport. I have discovered that consistency is key to becoming a top athlete. I train hard 6days a week and go to the gym to do maintence weight lifting 1 day a week. This is my life and I consider it my job right now, so anything I do is to better myself in what I love most.
Some Personal Information About Me:
I have played competive soccer since the age of 5. I played college soccer and still play. I tried out for professional soccer teams in Italy, Sweden and the Netherlands. I made all three teams but could not get a working visa so my dreams to become a professional soccer player crashed and burned. An old friend of mine kept telling me that I needed to compete in triathlons, that I would do very well in them. While I was in hawaii I watched and trained with the athletes there. I decided then that I wanted to be a professional triathlete. I went home and bought a road bike and the rest is just history.
Other than competing, I love surfing, stand up paddling, hanging out at the beach, playing beach volleybal, exploring, living and loving life, enjoying every minute of the day.
What has been your most embarrassing moment?
Right when I got back from Hawaii I bought my bike. I wasn't used to the clips and everytime I tried to stop the only way I could stop was falling over. The most embarrassing time was when I was done riding with my friend and we pulled up into his driveway. I couldn't stop or take my clips out so I ran into the garage and fell over. I had scabed knees for about a month
Why do you like this sport?
Its totally all on me. Everyday I train for myself and to get myself better. When I win its because I did it myself, I wanted to excell.
