What inspires you to compete? When I started competing in `93, it was just about having fun and getting better on my bike, no pressure. Now days I put more pressure on myself then anyone, but that`s what keeps me getting faster. If I have a bad race, I get mad, but I get over it quick because you always have another moto or event to redeem yourself. You always try to get better.
Why do you like this sport?
I`m into MX because once your bike is dialed in, it`s all up to the rider, you are in control of your own destiny, for the most part. Sure someone can take you out but you put yourself in that spot. Some guys say," all I have is bad luck" but the fast guys will get to the front and finish there no matter what kind of start they get. If someone wins all the time, I`m sure that they aren`t just "lucky" it`s cause they are good riders.
Some Personal Information About Me:
My name is Rory Horner. I`m 32 years old and live in Deer River, Minnesota. I`ve worked at J-Bar-J Inc. for 10 years as a clerk/manager. In the motocross off season I like to race snocross, cross country snowmobile races and go trail riding with my buddies. At the age of 11 I was introduced to the sport of motocross by my cousin and uncle. I went to my first Pro National in Millville, Mn at the age of 14. My Dad and Mom bought me my first brand new bike in March of `92 and I was hooked for life.
How's Life Treating You?
My life is going great, MX has made me a better person for sure. When I was young I thought I knew it all and took alot of things for granted. I have a 5 yr. old daughter named Tori and a 2 yr. old son named Hayden that love me no matter how many races I win or lose. My mom Judy is also very supportive, even though she does not attend the races very much anymore. I think she has seen me crash hard a few times and it`s very nerve racking for her. I totally understand now that I have kids.
