Q&A - Competition
How did you get started?
In September 1998 a company called ICON Sport came into ElPaso Texas with an event SuperBrawl 9. The event was a Pay Per View. I was serving in the Army at Fort Bliss Texas and my Squad leader thought that it would be great for me to fight in the event; since I was a former National Karate Champion. I had two weeks to train for a tournament style No Holds Barred Event. MMA was a complete different sport then. So I fought a preliminary tourney and won; then got my pro card!
List your competitive highlights:
My fight at SCF 8-8-8 with James Douglas that ended in a 3 round draw. There was blood everywhere!
What are you planning for next season?
Well, next season I plan on forming an actual camp in the Adirondacks of Upstate New York and working a lot more on what made me effective in my last fight.
What has been your biggest accomplishment?
I was nominated for the Silver Star in the U.S. Army Special Forces in combat!

Q&A - Personal
What inspires you to compete?
Blood in the water!!! It is when you hit somebody really hard and send him reeling and he looks at you like you set off a fire cracker in his ass!! That is blood in the water; or when you begin the Ground and pound and there is is no visible response... you got'em!! To hear the crowd screaming your name and feel the energy that goes with the screams! Most of all you are either a sheep or a wolf. Sheep can go through life with out competition or challenge; never knowing weather they were the better one. Or you can be a wolf and eat the sheep and fight the other wolves just to see who is the biggest and baddest! I'll be a wolf thank you!
What has been your most embarrassing moment?
My most embarrassing moment was in September 1998 I lost an event in ElPaso Texas by tapping out to a rear naked choke. It was my first big event and I showed up unprepared. I showed the consequences of not preparing in front of the entire world. I will never show up unprepared again!
Describe your style...
Style...I guess I am what you would call a hybrid fighter. I have a strong wrestling background; and have been involved with Karate for just as long. I've been training in wrestling and martial arts since I was about four years old. I have picked up a lot of other training along the way though. I've been into kickboxing for over 14 years. I guess if someone were to describe my style it would be Submission Grappling with Muy Thai combination.
Do you train? What does your schedule look like?
I train six days a week when I'M training for competition. I slow down to 5 days a week 2 weeks out from the fight. I break my sessions into 3 groups; training, conditioning and cardio. I try to blend old school with new age. I train extensively with weights and core training. I like to train under worse case scenarios. I have a couple of routines that require 4 to 5 fresh sparring/grappling partners switching out on me for 45 minutes. I believe that even if I am out classed and experienced; I can win the fight if I am in better condition.
Music?
Loud, Hard and Heavy! I like music that keeps a continuous level of intensity; like me.
