Q&A - Competition

How did you get started?

I started racing 50's in 01, and then dropped out of racing in 03 after I got my 65 due to lack of funds. But now we've started back up here in 09 racing the SRAC and D25 series.

List your competitive highlights:

So far, the best I've had is a 15th overall at Berthoud for the 125 Novice class, and then an 18th Overall at Watkins for the Open Novice class. I'm sure that will change though as the season goes by...

What are you planning for next season?

Hopefully some better finishes; a win would be nice. For this season though, I'm just getting used to the racing environment and trying to have fun. But the competitive side keeps coming out...

What has been your biggest accomplishment?

Getting the holeshot at Watkins on my 125 against a field of 250f's...then I almost finished 4th but I crashed right before the finish line. It was the LCQ...

Q&A - Personal

Why do you like this sport?

It's just the rush and the awesome feeling I get from lining up at a full gate, and then everybody going for that #1 spot all at once. And then battling it out with rider after rider after that. It's a lot of fun. There's no other feeling like being 30 feet in the air, another rider within inches of you, and then trying to land first to make the pass.

What has been your most embarrassing moment?

This is my first year racing, so there hasn't been anything really bad yet, but I started a gear too high at my last race and the bike bogged down and died. It sucked for sure; being the only one sitting there trying to get going again.

Describe your style...

Pretty loose for the most part. I used to do a lot of BMX which I think helped a lot with that. I tend to ride over my head a lot too when I'm racing, but I'm sure everybody does that. That's about it though...

What inspires you to compete?

Other than the thought of going pro, all the fun I have while racing is good enough inspiration for me. I don't know what I'd do without it.

Do you train? What does your schedule look like?

oofta...when I'm not sore from a crash or riding too hard, I try to make it to the gym as much as I can. While I'm there, I spend about 1 hour on Cardio and then the other hour on getting my strength up. I've always been a pretty skinny kid and mostly out of shape, but ever since I joined the gym back in August that's changed quite a bit. For riding, I usually ride every weekend if there's not a race. There's a couple times where and me and my uncle will go out in the middle of the week, but with his work schedule, it doesn't happen much.
