Q&A - Personal
What inspires you to compete?
The main thing that inspires me to compete is the feeling that I get from completing the track. Once I finish even the first lap, its like "wow I did it!". Its like when you complete a race no matter where your standings are, you're just proud that you managed to get through it in one piece. Ever since seeing my first quad race I thought I finally found a sport that fits me, the aggression, the passion, and the determination blew me away. Its kept me focused on bettering my skills.
Why do you like this sport?
The emotion is real. You can feel the passion for riding, the determination to cross the finish line without crashing or getting shoved off the track. You can feel the aggression of each rider as they push their quads beyond their limits. Its the respect each rider has for the other. On the track its every man for themselves but behind the line in the pits, each person is helping another fix a swingarm or repair a broken axle. Its like a family that has respect and passion for the win.
Do you train? What does your schedule look like?
My schedule right now since school started has been whenever I get a chance to just stop what I'm doing take a break and hit that quad. To push and push until I think I've reached success for the day, just to do it all over again the next. I take any type of criticism in consideration knowing it will help increase my skills and make me a lot better on the track. I learn new things, and my level of skills gets better each day.
Why do you compete?
Doing motocross has taught me alot of respect for people who will do a sport that may cost them their lives, respect for the people who pour money into the different circuits to keep them going just for us. The tracks that spend the money to keep their places open for us during the off season. I compete because it gives me a sense of belonging somewhere and knowing that I have a way to help myself grow into a better person. I compete because I gain respect for the right reasons.
What has been your most embarrassing moment?
When I first started riding, I was going around a basic circle pretty much getting the hang of things. When I hit a berm and ended up having two wheels off the ground and I thought I could stick my leg out like a bike and push the quad back up. Needless to say it didn't work out that way and I ended up bruising my ankle for a good week.
