Getting ready to ride 50 miles this a.m. whooohoooo!!!

well i have been training others including my wife for her first race and i have seen many difficulties along the way.  The good thing is that they have all been obstacles that we have been able to figure out as we progress in their training.  Goal setting is difficult for the new triathlete.....  One is they have no base platform to work with and tend to just want to get through the race alive..  I have learned that if we can get these beginners to enjoy the race and the training leading up to the race we can get them to see what being a triathlete is all about..... The ability to overcome great obstacles all while enjoying the journey along the way.  We all have started some where and we have had to build up to the capacity that we can handle for our own personnel body type , goals, and motivation level.  I love the age group race as it tends to be ordinary people becoming athletes.... I say encourage one person to join you and show them the way and along that journey you will find your self again if you have become lost or de-motivated and if not you may also make a great friend along your path.....   Just a thought!!!  Thanks to all that support the group and i am thankful to all my sponsors times are hard and all of us understand it.... good training!!!

Well i had taking some time off the bike for the long rides and paid for it the other day.  I rode my old training route for ironman and paid for it. The legs went to rubber about mile 40 on a hill climb, but i always ask myself " what would lance do?" and i was able to power through.  I felt it  the next day and had to take the day off of training.  But i really love the pain that i feel today.... i will be back out there in a couple of days to get those legs back.  To build a good base i will start early and train harder than last year.  Planning and visualize the objectives will be a bigger part of my training and a  better bike will give me more confidence in the race.  Good Training....

Well as you know i have been switching up some of my training to avoid boredom and fatigue.  Well recently  i have added some weight lifting to give me some more strength, i have to say that my body is in shock and i believe that is a good thing.  i have recently teamed up with a friend that is a body builder so we incorporate both of our principles to get the benefits from each others sports.  not only has it been fun but also a nice change of pace.  currently i am working on some business ventures in the sport and i am excited to be looking at a good long future in the sport.  well that is all for now and in closing i would like to thank all of my sponsors as without you none of this would be possible.  thanks again and good training.

Well that was fun, i did my first 5k in years, recently i have taken some time away form the 70.3 distance to regain  some focus, speed and to heal up.  I have worked on speed in the pool and on the track which seems to be paying off.  I also have been training friends to race some triathlons.  With all of this my books are pretty full from day to day.  So i decided to do a 5k for fun and to just lay it out a bit.  Well i thought i would work 5 days straight prior to doing the race, like a idiot and got no sleep the night before, so the race starts at one and i got off at 7:30 am, went to the bank, checked in at 10:30 and then went to have a cup of coffee, after that showed up at the race start.  The start was fun from about three quarters back, and the air horn sounds, slow fast slow fast for the first mile just to get through the pack.  Well i opened up a bit and kept the leaders in sight, for about 2 miles and then the gap got larger, i started to slow and fall back a bit with some abdominal cramping, but i pulled it together for a 10th place in my age group.  So it is working the speed work that is i finished with a 21:03 over all i felt good and got another run in later that day with a friend that i was training.  So in the next month the focus will adjust a bit more toward the bike and some base hill climbs.  so good training and stick with it if you want it!!!

I have started getting back into the training again, i had taken some time off and i believed my body needed it along with my family.  Things have started out great and i am training a friend of mine for his first international, i believe he will do fine. also i am thinking of doing some shorter races and focusing on some speed work.  I am also working on a clothing line to release in the coming weeks so if you see me out at the races trying to sell some in these hard times stop by and say hi.  that is it for now i will start blogging more in the coming weeks, i have been very busy lately and have lost some of my focus but i am now back in the game so good training!!!!!

Well i have been training and doing alot of speed work lately, My legs feel really great and i believe that my hamstring is finally stating to get much better.  As far as racing i am trying to get faster before i enter my next race which will be in July.  We are gonna look at a shorter distance so that i can go all out and see what i am made of.   Also i have been training some friends for their races coming up, this has been an interesting experience as i have never coached some one before but in the long run i believe that it has helped me also to understand what my coaches have been saying all the time.  As athletes we tend to stay so focused on what we know and tend to not think outside of the box.   That is it for now but i will be a little more proactive on the blogs!!!!   Good Training.

Well it has been 2 weeks since my last race and i have basically only hit the pool a few times for some video training and not much else. So, Yesterday i decided to take a run followed by a strength workout and boy am i sore today. But it does feel good, I love working out but understand that i need to step away from it, time and again as it takes its toll on our minds also. I never felt like i needed rest after a race but after altering my training routine to get my best times i now am coming to understand that rest is a very important key to this puzzle that i have undertaken. Thats it for now, we are deciding what race is next as we are trying to buy a house and finances are tight right now so the goal is to stay in shape and add some speed and help others train to meet their goals also.... So Good Training.....Ron

i got back in the pool today and it felt good, of course thanks to H2O Audio for the care package, if you do not use these guy's you really should that 2 hours in the pool fly's by with music in my ears. Thanks Guys!!!! I will be back on the bike this week and start running again and i feel strong, i felt like i was 80 percent for the race and i was able to PR my time for California, Don't get me wrong I plan on doing better and better, I will choose my next race in the coming weeks and set up my plan, I feel like I am starting to understand what and how i need to train, The package is coming together so watch out!!!!! here i come.......Good training,

Ron

Well where do I start, lots of training and hard work come to a head at the Ford Oceanside Ironman 70.3, Thursday my training partner and I drove up to Oceanside to check the Expo out and check in for the race. I Swear the guy knows everybody in the sport, I met some very interesting people with him and for that I thankful. You can never have to many friends in my book. Everything went smoothly and i picked up my race wheels from Race Day Wheels, by the way these guys are awesome times two!!! We had lunch with the announcer ( It was his Bday) so it was on my partner and i got a free lunch, thanks again Robe!! I did some sponsor handouts of cards and perks because you have to represent as that is what we are here for right!!!, Then I headed home to finish some loan paper work for our house we wanna buy, and began to work on my bike. I worked till about 8 p.m. and still could not get the rear de-railer handled, so i could not sleep and had to be at B&L at ten a.m. sharp for some repair, These guys were on point and took care of the problem quickly (Thanks to B&L Bikes), After that it was finish packing and check into our place on Camp Pendelton, We rented a beach cottage for the weekend, not the most comfortable but great on the wallet and the location was less than five minutes from the start. Saturday at 4:30 a.m. time to start your day in the 46 degree weather, it was so cold, the water temp was 58.6 degrees so it was cold on top of cold. I had a cup of my Christopher Bean Coffee and got ready in the swim transition as my wife waited outside, i am sure she was cold too!! well the swim start went well and i started passing people pretty fast, but then i started to have a hard time seeing the swim markers as the swells were about two feet and the sun was coming up, i came out of the water in 36 minutes, Thanks to H2O Audio all the early swim training with the music helped a bunch...., T1 was long i got stuck in my wet suit and had a little trouble so needless to say we will be practicing more of that this year, The bike course is one of the toughest in the Ironman series, major hills start at mile 30 and go through mile 48, after that you fight the wind the only problem i had on the bike was i thew my chain at mile 50, a couple of minutes and i was back in the game, at the end i had a 3:09 bike which was my best on this course, Thanks to Rudy Project and their aero helmet and Motor Tabs for keeping me hydrated the whole time, T2 was quick and it was off to the run, I had some stomach issues but worked through them, and started the run, The beach part was the hardest and sapped the energy right out of your legs, but hey you gotta keep going, At this point friends and family along with the spectators and course workers make all the difference in the world, Thank you to all of you, i finished my run in 2:03, for my PR of 6:00:23, i was shooting for a 5:50 and felt disappointed that i let everyone down. As i mulled over my results i remembered that i met alot of my goals and that my support group was the best, I am Thankful that i can compete in this sport and take what i have learned and apply it to the next race. It could always be worse and the pain goes away but when it is all said and done did you leave it on the course? I did and i can do better at the next race the training changes proved it and thank God for the Support of Family, Friends and the Sponsors!!!!
