At 8pm on Friday, an email was sent out from the staff at the US National Whitewater Center stating that they were canceling the 10 Mile Trail Run due to rain.

I can understand their reason....  they want to preserve the trail and racing on a muddy trail ends up in some big-time erosion..

Oh well...  So I'm sitting at my computer, mouth gaping open, as I have put in time and effort to prepare for this race.  Matter of fact, I had *just* completed getting my gear all together in prep.

So I begin to scramble to find another race to be held on Saturday, as I cannot let my sponsors down.  I had scheduled to race and to represent... so shall it be.

The best I could find was the Goody Goes Global 5k.  Although I was really wanting a trail race and something with a bit more distance, this was the only thing even remotely close.  So I decide to race it.  Besides it was for a good cause.

The group was small (a little over 50 runners) and the course was hilly.  The hills were moderate for the first 2 miles.  The last mile was ran through a park.  The side walks were very curvy (almost switchbacks in spots).  The hills were a bit more steep as well.  The sidewalks and bridges were wet.  I slipped on one bridge.  I caught myself but lost my Spy Optic Scoop HS glasses as they tumbled off the bridge and into the creek bed.  Time for a new pair.

I finished 3rd overall with a time of 20:17 (6:32 pace)(results).  Pretty good finish considering I had been training for an endurance run, not a 3 mile sprint.  Phtotos coming soon!

Special thanks goes to my sponsors whose gear helped me in this race
