Thunder in the Sand is held twice a year on the soft sandy beach of Wildwood, NJ. It’s a fun 2 day event that always draws a lot of racers. The track never has any big jumps but it’s always rough with some challenging sections. After couple dnf’s at Atco and KROC I was looking forward to the fall race. In Saturdays motos I rode pretty well. I finished 2cnd in 125c, only getting beat by my riding buddy Tom Sherby. In Schoolboy I also finished 2cnd, this time losing to Tom’s brother Charles! On Sunday I won 125c giving me the overall for the weekend. At the start of the Second Schoolboy moto Charles Sherby and I got the holeshot and were side by side into the first turn when he got crossed up and crashed hard at the beginning of the whoop section. It looked like a few people ran him over and the race was red flagged…He was beat up but somehow was able to get up and get back to the gate for the restart! When the gate dropped we both had a good start but like Saturdays race he pulled me for the win and the overall. I finished second to lock up 2cnd overall. The best part of the weekend was no DNF’s!

This was my first time racing the KROC. The new track layout was awesome. It was really fast and I felt pretty confident in practice. My first moto was a 125c qualifier. After a mid-pack holeshot I worked my way to the top 5 by the end of the first lap. Then while battling for 4th , another rider got into my front wheel and I went down pretty hard. I got my bell rung pretty good. I did get back up after a lap or so and finish the race but my dad and I decided after the moto to be safe and call it a weekend. Man, I hate concussions…
