JLaw will forego the Atlanta round to test and tune his YZ450F, returning to action in the premier SX class @ Lucas Oil Stadium

CARLSBAD, Calif., (Feb. 20, 2009) – Defending 2008 WSX Lites class champion Jason “JLaw” Lawrence (Boost Mobile/ampm/Monster Energy/ Troy Racing) announced today that he will contest the Indianapolis Supercross on a YZ450F, round nine of 2009 Monster Energy AMA Supercross, an FIM World Championship, Feb. 28th.

Making the best of his recent free time, Lawrence has worked with Boost Mobile/ampm/Monster Energy/Troy Racing’s Chris McElvoy, Keith Burns and head mechanic, Toshi, to get the big bike prepped and ready for Indy.

“I’m stoked, to be honest,” said Lawrence. “Our team’s got nothing to lose and everything to gain by me moving up to the 450 class. Nick’s (Wey, Lawrence’s Boost Mobile/ampm/Monster Energy/ Troy Racing teammate) given me some good advice and we’ll see if I can’t put it all together at Indy. Looking forward to it.”

The inaugural event at the new Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis is expected to be highly attended and there’ll be a considerable amount of focus on Lawrence’s attempt to break into the super competitive 450 ranks. Hailing from New Jersey, this will be Lawrence’s first supercross race at an eastern United States stadium.

Next up for the Boost Mobile/ampm/Monster Energy/Troy Racing team’s Nick Wey is this Saturday’s Atlanta Supercross at the Georgia Dome, round eight of Monster Energy Supercross.

PICKERINGTON, Ohio -- AMA Racing officials determined today that actions taken by AMA Supercross Lites West Championship Series rider Jason Lawrence at the San Francisco round of the series violated the terms of his existing probationary status, which began on June 12, 2008.

Lawrence has therefore been suspended for the next two rounds of the 2009 AMA Supercross Lites West Championship Series. Specifically, Lawrence was found to have violated Appendix A, section A2.3j, of the AMA Supercross, and FIM World Championship, Rulebook, which states that the following offense is subject to disciplinary action:

"An attack on a Racing official and/or engaging in a fight. This includes any person who attacks or is involved in a fight anywhere on the premises prior to, during, or after an AMA Supercross, an FIM World Championship meet. There will be no maximum fine or suspension period for this offense."

It was determined that Lawrence was involved in an incident off the track involving certain Supercross class riders. As a result of that violation, Lawrence has been suspended for the next two rounds of the 2009 AMA Supercross Lites West Championship Series, including the Feb. 7 round in Anaheim, Calif., and the Feb. 14 round in San Diego, Calif.

AMA officials notified Lawrence of the penalty on Wednesday, Feb. 4. Lawrence appealed and presented evidence in his favor at a meeting with AMA Racing officials on Friday, Feb. 6. Following careful consideration of that evidence, Lawrence's appeal was denied.

JLaw’s nailed with a bout of food poisoning, hospitalized, and must miss the S.F. SX Lites round according to AMA rules

CARLSBAD, Calif., (Jan. 31, 2009) –Boost Mobile/ampm/Monster Energy/ Troy Racing’s Jason “JLaw” Lawrence was hit with a gnarly bout of food poisoning and forced to a hospital in San Francisco today where he was administered and IV and, according to AMA rules, is now ineligible to race tonight’s WSX Lites contest at AT&T Park.

“Yeah I’m bummed,” said Lawrence simply when asked about the situation.

Boost Mobile/ampm/Monster Energy/Troy Racing team officials notes that Lawrence started to feel the symptoms on Thursday, but tried to fight through it – only to buckle on Saturday morning due to the severity of the illness. Lawrence is expected to make a full recovery in time for next week’s Anaheim 3 contest – a race that he was on the podium in last year (3rd).

Hey everybody,

I want to start out by apologizing to everyone at RedBud, my team at Yamaha of Troy and the entire MX industry on what not only happened this past weekend, but also for the rest of the crap I’ve been involved with this past year.

Things are pretty much rock bottom for me right now. I was on top of the world when I won the Western Lites title a couple months ago and now I’m sitting here feeling like crap. I’ve got my side of the story regarding what went down at RedBud, yeah, but there’s no sense in telling it. The simple answer is I put myself into a situation that I shouldn’t have been in and because of that I’ve let a bunch of people down.

I’ve run into some problems away from the track that have affected my results and it’s become apparent that I’ve got to address them. I am taking action to deal with these issues and to make sure incidents like what happened this past weekend don’t occur again. I’m calling on people that have been there with me through thick and thin, relying on them to help me with my problems and get me on back on track as I’ve come to realize these are things I can’t handle myself.

Motocross is my life. I love the sport and don’t know where I’d be without it. And being a champion I’m constantly in the spotlight and my every move – good or bad – is  discussed and debated online and in the press. It’s a lot to handle and, in all honesty, I’ve had a bad year dealing with it.

But that’s going to change. I am going to try to turn this into positive and use this opportunity to fix the things that are causing these problems in the first place.

Again, I’m extremely sorry for my actions. To guys like my agent, Scott Sepkovic, and to Scott Paul, who owns Yamaha of Troy. Also, to Chris McAvoy, my team manager, and Keith McCarty at Yamaha, plus my mom and all the guys at the AMA who’ve had to put up with my behavior, I’m sorry. Very, very sorry.

But most of all I want to apologize to my fans. If I’d have bought a ticket to see my favorite guy race at RedBud and he got kicked off the property for getting in a fight the day before I’d be mad as hell. So to all my fans and fans of motocross in general, I’m going to take the extra step to make sure we’re cool again. I promise to make amends to you guys because there’s nothing better than seeing you pumped up when I’m doing well – and still having my back when I’m not doing so well, like right now.

I’m not making any excuses. I screwed up good this past weekend and I’m prepared to do what it takes to get back where I was when I won the supercross title. I’m no angel and never will be. But what I will be is responsible for my actions, take the right measures to correct things and learn from my mistakes.

Yamaha Of Troy’s Jason Lawrence ‘Brilliant’ In 2nd Place Finish @ San Diego’s Qualcomm Stadium SX

Lawrence clinches 2nd place overall in Western Lites division a race early

CARLSBAD, Calif., (Feb. 19, 2007) – Monster Energy-backed Jason Lawrence (Yamaha of Troy) put his YZ250F on the podium for the 5th time in seven rounds of Amp’d Mobile AMA Supercross Series Western Lites racing, again ahead of the factory Yamaha and KTM racers.

Half of the closest 1-2 rivalry going in the sport now, Lawrence was quick to give props to fellow Monster Energy-backed racer Ryan Villopoto on his clinching of the overall Western Lites title.

“Congrats to him (Villopoto) on the championship,” said Lawrence from the podium.

Lawrence made the main event with a uncharacteristic podium finish in his heat race (3rd). Up to this point Lawrence had given hints of his speed in practice, but rode just enough to make the main in many of the heat races. In fact, Lawrence was blazing in his heat race, clocking the fastest Lites lap of the night with a 51.038. Now really fired up to race in front of his adopted hometown fans (Carlsbad, Calif.), Lawrence finished 3rd in his heat and looked to have won the holeshot in the main, only to get closed out by a charging Monster Energy-backed Chris Gosselaar at the wire.

“I thought I had the holeshot, but came out in 3rd which was good,”

said Lawrence. “Then Ryan (Villopoto) closed up on me and we came together on the next corner and he blew out a few of my spokes. I was cool to see him come back like that after last weekend.” Note:

Lawrence nearly put Villpoto on the ground with an aggressive – but legal – pass at Houston the previous weekend.

So with 2nd place in the Western Lites wrapped up and two full months before the final race resumes in Seattle (April 28th), Lawrence will look to focus on his training and bike set up for the Outdoor Nationals.

“I start outdoor testing on Monday,” he said. “Then I’m heading to Georgia to stay with Nico Izzi and his dad to test for outdoors some more.”

Next up for Lawrence is the April 28th running of the Seattle Supercross, Round Eight of the AMA Supercross Lites class championship of the 2007 Amp’d Mobile AMA Supercross Series.

Yamaha Of Troy's Jason Lawrence Scores Fourth Podium In Six Races With 2nd Place @ Houston!

Series' best rivalry formed as Lawrence and Ryan Villopoto battle hard

CARLSBAD, Calif., (Feb. 12, 2007) - Monster Energy-backed Jason Lawrence (Yamaha of Troy) is pulling out all the stops in a effort to win the Amp'd Mobile AMA Supercross Series' Western Regional Lites championship, banging bar-to-bar with overall series points leader Ryan Villopoto to created the most exciting rivalry going in supercross racing.

This past weekend in Houston Lawrence got the start he was hoping for, a tight second off the gate behind holeshot winner Villopoto, and raced aggressively with his rival - taking the lead with a rough but legal pass at one point early in the race.

"There's no dirtiness intended," said Lawrence of his pass, which apparently got Villopoto all chapped and caused him to have words with Lawrence following the race. "I'd never been in that position before (2nd, right behind Villopoto) and I'm just trying to win a championship. The kid's super fast, but the next time I'm in that position it'll be different for sure."

Noteworthy: The series' top rivals were going at it so hard they put up lap times faster than everybody - both classes combined - with the exception of AMA Supercross class winner James Stewart!

Lawrence rode extremely well all weekend. He made the main with a podium finish in the first heat race and definitely carried that momentum into the start. And though some small mistakes though out the race kept him from winning, he finished ahead of every other factory-backed racer in his class, including Josh Grant (Honda) and Josh Hansen (KTM).

"The whole Yamaha of Troy team is doing their job and I'm just trying to do mine," said Lawrence.

Mathematically Lawrence is still in it in terms of the title chase, but he has to pull out all the stops this weekend to keep Villopoto from clinching. Lawrence trails his rival by 34 points (147-113) with two rounds remaining - including Seattle on April 28th.

Next up for the AMA Supercross Lites class championship contender his adopted hometown race in San Diego at Qualcomm Stadium (Feb. 17th), Round Seven of the 2007 Amp'd Mobile AMA Supercross Series.

Three Anaheim Supercross Rounds - Make That Three Podium Finishes For Jason Lawrence!

Yamaha of Troy racer places 3rd at third and final Anaheim SX round

CARLSBAD, Calif., (Feb. 5, 2007) - Monster Energy-backed Jason Lawrence (Yamaha of Troy), a southern California transplant from New Jersey, is developing quite a fan base in his adopted home state, this past weekend enjoying the crowd backing at another packed Anaheim Angels Stadium in his battle for a podium 3rd place finish overall.

With the effort Lawrence kept a healthy margin between himself (2nd overall in the standings) and 3rd place Jake Weimer (17 points), along with keeping himself in the running for the overall championship.

As he usually does, Lawrence showed his hand in practice, hammering home the day's second fastest Lites class practice time. In his heat race he kind of 'yawned' his way into the main, finishing 7th.

Pumped to battle with series points leader Ryan Villopoto, Lawrence gunned his Yamaha YZ250F off the starting line and beat the rest of the field - including Villopoto - to the first turn to win the Progressive Direct Holeshot Award. Finally, with a less-than-mediocre start, it was on!

Then the red flag flew.

"That's a tough break - I was all about that thousand dollars," said Lawrence laughing, then becoming serious. "It's a real bummer because that's the best start I've ever got. I know when Ryan's ahead of me he can beat me - that's obvious. I wanted to see how it'd turn out if I got a good start, which I did.

So after the red flag I got a horrible start and the best I could do was third."

Despite the setback at the start Lawrence rode brilliantly. In battling back from a mid-pack place following the re-start, Lawrence passed both factory KTM riders Josh Hansen (lap six) and Martin Davalos (lap eight), along with passing and holding off factory Yamaha racer Josh Hill late in the race.

In the end Lawrence was positive about his race, the season thus far and his chance at making up points on Villopoto, who leads Lawrence by 31 points (122-91) with three Western Region Supercross Lites division races remaining on the schedule.

"I'm just going to do as good as I can do, see where it goes from there," he said.

Next up for the AMA Supercross Lites class championship contender is the third installment of the Anaheim Supercross trilogy, this Saturday (Feb. 10th) at Houston's Reliant Stadium.

J-Law Overcomes Crash, Finishes 5th @ San Fran SX

Yamaha of Troy racer's 2nd overall in AMA SX Lites class points chase

CARLSBAD, Calif., (Jan. 31, 2007) - Monster Energy-backed Jason Lawrence (Yamaha of Troy) overcame a mid-race, track-exiting crash in the AMA Supercross Lites class final at San Francisco's SBC Park to finish 5th on the evening - keeping his second overall standing in the Western Region Lites division in tact.

Probably the most impressive aspect of Lawrence's performance on Saturday across the slick conditions at San Francisco was that he put up the event's second-fastest lap time (44.988) on the very last lap of the main event.

"I was pissed at myself," said Lawrence. "I realize points are valuable and wrecks are costly, so I put my head down and charged as hard as I could. Yamaha of Troy had my bike running unreal. It's what allowed me to catch back up to the top five."

Lawrence would catch and pass Kyle Partridge for the fifth spot - a racer he came together with and left the track on lap eight, landing in a mud hole and losing a glove in the process of getting his YZ250F up and going again.

"I ended up riding the last half of the race with only one glove,"

said Lawrence. "Never done that before."

Due to rain and soft conditions, Lawrence started the weekend with an abbreviated practice session. He'd make the main smartly through his heat race, placing 7th overall. In the main Lawrence struggled a bit off the starting line, but made up some time - and places - on the first lap in getting up to 12th. From there he started picking off riders and was up to 6th when he and Partridge came together.

"Not sure who's fault it was, if anybody's," said Lawrence of the get together with Partridge.

Once going again, Lawrence would mount a feverous attack that showed little mercy on new or veteran Lites class racers, putting the final touches on his 5th place finish with a last lap pass on Partridge.

Next up for the AMA Supercross Lites class championship contender is the third installment of the Anaheim Supercross trilogy, this Saturday (Feb. 3rd) and Angels Stadium. Noteworthy: Lawrence has been on the podium at both the Anaheim 1 and Anaheim 2 rounds, finishing 3rd and 2nd, respectively.

Jason Lawrence On Podium Again @ Anaheim SX

Yamaha of Troy racer finishes 2nd, now 2nd overall in WSX Lites points

CARLSBAD, Calif., (Jan. 22, 2007) - Monster Energy-backed Jason Lawrence was all over the competition at the second of three Anaheim

(Calif.) supercross rounds, clocking one of the Lites class' fastest overall lap times and parlaying that speed into another podium finish

(2nd) in the Western Region Supercross Lites division of the '07 Amp'd Mobile AMA Supercross Series.

With the effort - his second podium finish in three rounds this year

- Lawrence, running the Yamaha of Troy-tuned YZ250F, took over sole possession of 2nd place in the overall WSX standings, six points ahead of Chris Gosselaar, but still a bit behind overall WSX points leader Ryan Villopoto (72-55). And it's that gap between he and Villopoto that Lawrence is looking forward to changing.

"If I can get out with Ryan, it's on!," says Lawrence.

With a mid-pack start in the Lites main event, Lawrence had to rail through a ton of top shelf racers just to make the top ten - which he did much of by the end of the first lap. From there the SoCal transplant (New Jersey) blew past a whole host of outstanding talent through the next five laps, including factory-backed racers Josh Grant, Martin Davalos and Josh Hill.

"Jason was on a mission," added Lawrence's agent, Scott Sepkovic of Crown AMG.

That mission began during practice where Lawrence busted out the second-fastest lap time in the first Lites practice session. The second session, however, had Lawrence pulling off the track.

Undaunted, the young talent knew exactly what was going on.

"We finally got the settings figured out, and I knew what I needed after the first practice session anyway," said Lawrence.

Out of his heat race in good shape (podium 3rd) to make the main, Lawrence didn't get the start he wanted and was forced to play catch up.

"I'd had a bad start in my heat race and my start in the main pretty much sucked as well," said Lawrence. "On top of that there were a lot of guys in front of me making mistakes, which made it even more difficult to get through the pack and up to the leaders. Then once I got into 2nd place (lap six), I knew there was no chance of catching Ryan, so I just rode smart and got to the podium in 2nd.

Pretty stoked about that."

One of the sections that was noteworthy in Lawrence's comeback was a triple out of the whoops, which only he and Villopoto were clearing (and only a couple Supercross class racers as well). Through that portion of the track Lawrence was able to pick up enough time to clock a 48.546 - through traffic - which put him up close to Nick Wey's fastest time in the Supercross class main event.

"Yep, I was just a click off the podium times in the big bike class," said Lawrence.

Next up for Lawrence is the fourth round of the WSX Lites division this weekend at San Francisco's SBC Park (Jan. 27th). Last year at SBC Park Lawrence finished 4th overall.

Another solid finish last week for the highly-touted racer from New Jersey

CARLSBAD, Calif., (July 28, 2005) –Cernic’s/Suzuki racer Jason Lawrence again put up some pretty solid numbers on the AMA Motocross Championship series circuit, this past weekend in Colorado scoring an 11th place overall finish – the highlight of his afternoon being a eighth-place finish in the first moto.

This weekend will be Lawrence’s first trip as a pro motocrosser to the famed Pacific Northwest track known to the locals as ‘Shougal. In the shadows of nearby Mt. Hood and nestled in amongst the majestic Douglas Firs, Washougal is the series’ most picturesque track. And Lawrence says he’s ready for battle.

“I’m feeling more and more comfortable every race, like I have no problem running at the same speed as the top guys,” he said. “I had an excellent week of training, my Cernic’s Suzuki is running better than any bike I’ve ever ridden and I don’t see any reason why Washougal won’t be my best race of the year thus far.”

Despite completely missing the first two races, then suffering through some bike problems that kept him out of the points, with his effort at Lakewood Lawrence moved into the top 20 in the standings (18th) and is well within striking distance of the top 15, possibly even the top ten by the end of the year as the series just passed its halfway point.

“All I can do is keep charging hard for two motos and grab as many points as I can each week,” said Lawrence. “Do that and we’ll be in good shape for sure by Glen Helen.”

Along with Monster Energy Drink, Lawrence sent a shout-out to his other main sponsors, including: Jeff Cernic, Suzuki, One Industries helmets, Dunlop, Six Six One boots, Lost Clothing, Alloy, Spy, Freestyle Watches, Iron Horse Bicycles, Pro Circuit, Kicker, Renthal and Sponsorhouse.com.
