Overview

How I got started

Between the ages of 14-18 I was a skateboarder in the shop sponsored category. I hurt my back in the California State Championship finals in 1992. I had always ridden bikes for transportation and jumped them. I made a video tape of myself backflipping my bmx bike and jumping my mountain bike. I put together a resume with XC race results in Sport and Expert classes. I sent the tape and the resume to John Parker at Yeti cycles and I soon become a sponsored Pro and started my career in Downhill.

Goals for the Future

I will be doing another Allride Tour! I`ll be stopping at dealerships around North America while also competing in select Freeride events and Film several different films and documentaries.

Bio

What inspires you to compete?

I grew up in a pretty crazy environment. I saw a lot of drug and alcohol abuse and destructive behavior. I knew I needed to do something with my life that pushed it to the limits, but I knew I wanted to do something I loved. Plus when my dad died, I started living for two people instead of one. He died racing his motorcycle. He had been drinking.

Describe your style...

My riding style: Sometimes I`m like a frog in a blender, other times I`m smooth like silk.

What do you want to be when you grow up?

A Great Parent.

Do you like to travel? What's your best (clean) road trip story?

I have so many stories about being on the road. These past few years when my wife and I ran the Fox Allride Tour were pretty amazing. We have so many stories from the septic tank falling out of the RV whlie full at a rest stop, to leaving my wife at a campground because I didn`t know she hadn`t gotten in the RV yet. Too many to tell!

CYCLING BACKGROUND HISTORY:

When did you begin cycling and why? :
I rode my bike to school and would race the bus there and back. I would work lines in between the bus and dodge cars and crackheads in Fontana, CA. I did not have a BMX career since I was 5 years old before this. I have been a mountain biker from the beginning. I had a little BMX bike at first, but liked mountain bikes better because they go more places and are more versatile.
Who influenced you and how? :
I knew I wanted to get out of my hometown so I had many influences. From the people around me, to race car drivers to snakes because I would ride my bike for hours and hours catching snakes and I realized I either wanted to be a herpatologist or a bike racer. Especially after my dad died, I knew I had to find a dream and live for it. Here I am, 10 years later doing something I love for a living.
Have you suffered any serious injuries cycling? Describe what and how:
4 broken wrists
1 broken ankle
3 ribs broken
1 broken finger
Shins that look like the surface of the moon with skin so thin you can almost see my bone.

Other sports competed in and when:
Skateboarding comps from 1989-1993
Accomplishments in the above sports:
Overall Ca. state champion in mini ramp and 2nd overall street
What are your strongest qualities as a racer? :
My Personality and my desire to push myself harder every time and a clear understanding of the products I am running.
What are your current and future goals in racing?
To change the face of cycling.
To make it more acceptable to other athletes and sports.
To accomplish my goals of world cup, norba, freeride and jump comp individual wins and titles.

What are you doing to achieve these goals? :
Building dirt jumps and ramps in my yard, going on road and mtb rides while downhilling as many different kinds of trails as possible.
What are your current and future goals in life? :
Current goals are to finish my yard and house and gain momentum in my training. My future goals would be to make the ALLRIDE name be synonomous with MTBing. When you hear ALLRIDE you think 26inch bikes. I also want to laugh as much as I do, have as much fun as I am having and keep my career in the bike industry because I don't belong anywhere else.
Describe your greatest cycling achievement to date:
There are so many from the time I started cross-country, to trials and then onto downhill. I guess the greatest achievement is becoming known for doing all of them at a high level. ALLRIDE just fits.
Describe your worst race or cycling experience:
One of my first XC experiences when I was wearing skate clothes on a 30 mile ride and got two flats and I didn't have any tubes. I was out of water and food and it was getting dark. My buddy decided to ride my bike for me with two flats while I rode his perfect bike. He waited for me for a half-hour at the car as I finally rode up with my pride bruised and I thought I sucked. And so it began. My quest to never let that happen again.
Describe your favorite race course:
Mud and roots up top, the middle is dense trees with zero visibility, rocky and steep with a finish line with doubles that keep getting bigger and bigger until they are 130ft on a slight grade. Perfect Course!
