Shirley Good's Tips

Overview

How I got started

Summer of 2003, I went to Malibu (My home break) after swimming at the Jr. Olympics in Mission Viejo . I saw people setting up for a surf contest called; Wild Women Waterday! Never heard of it and saw that they were having a mile swim and a mile paddle, plus surf contests by age group ONLY for GIRLS! I asked my parents if I could sign up, they said yes, I did and I won the swim and paddle, plus surfed in my FIRST contest ever against top surfers in my age group like Courtney Conologue and Tara Franz. I placed in the finals and brought home trophies! Ever since then, I had the surfing bug and wanted to compete as much as possible, which now has now over ruled over most swim meets.

Goals for the Future

Winning the NSSA Girls Explorers division , going to Nationals and placing in the top 3!
Competing in a Jr.Pro event and going to the final.
Try Open Womern in the NSSA and maybe Longboarding.

Bio

Do you train? What does your schedule look like?

Yes, I train, alot. I surf as much as possible (when there is waves and no rain run-off). I always go to the contest spot a few days before to workout and get a feel for the waves. I skateboard, swim, and cross train with yoga. I eat as healthy as I can. Mostly salad, pasta, soups and mom`s candied yams with pineapple. I do love Jamba smoothies, Arizona Ice Teas and Kerns Pineapple-Coco-Nut.

Music?

Yes, I enjoy lots of music. I also record Hip Hop Rap Music. Check out my website at www.shirleygood.com and www.myspace.com/shirleygood

Why do you compete?

Traveling to the differen`t surf spots is one of the best parts about competing. I love to compete and be in the Ocean with my dad and friends. We always have fun! I like to surf in the older divisions, its a nice challenge to see what kind of performance you can get from yourself. If you set your goals high, you usually accomplish them!

What do you want to be when you grow up?

I would like to be a pro-surfer and Jr. Lifeguard instructor. I also want to finish my album and continue to record music and get onto the Disney Channel and Nick!

Do you like to travel? What's your best (clean) road trip story?

If we have a contest far away, we get to travel! I Love to travel with my family and surf team (WCWR). We go all over California from contest to contest. I have been as far North as Steamers Lane in Santa Cruz all the way down to Mission Beach in San Diego. I also went to Hawaii for a swim meet in the summer of 2003. I surfed in Waikiki and had so much fun being in the beautiful warm waters. I am anxious to get to the Superbank (Kirra Point).
