Back on the 22nd of September I was asked to head home to McFarland and participate in the local triathlon that is ran their every year in conjunction with the family festival. I wasn't asked to race it on my own, but instead I was asked to help some old friends with a relay as the biker.

Now, normally I would never do a relay, but I didn't have to be at my bartending job until 3:30 that afternoon, and I wasn't doing any other workouts, so I obliged to help out.

Considering I was up really late hanging out with a friend, I wasn't expecting much from myself. I mean, when you stay out until 2:00am and then get up at 6am, things don't seem to be recovered very much. I was still sore, and even though I was nursing my Monster Energy drink (I need a sponsorship from those fellas!) I was still pretty wiped out.

Our swimmer was actually the father of a gal I went to school with and is now studying in South America for the semester. He did the 400meter pool swim in around 7:40 (that's pretty close to exact conversions for a 500yd free) which was the 3rd fastest for the relays. When he tagged me for the bike leg, I was down about 2min from the lead biker. That lasted until about mile 3.5 when I caught and passed the lead biker. The course, a fairly challenging route of hills and multiple turns. All said and done, I finished the bike (17mi total) in an average pace of 27.6mph...not too shabby considering the lack of sleep and notice of 3 days time. Our runner, Jacob Ostrander, took the 3.0mi run inn just over 15min time giving us the win and the course record.

It was a fun, and relaxed race. It's this weekend, the 29th-30th that holds a big race in my mind. I'll be going to Green Bay for the Green Bay Duathlon which is held right next to the Packer's stadium. It's a big deal for me because last year it was my first ever duathlon and I finished second overall only to William Smith, the Kiwi Olympian.

It should be a good race tomorrow morning against Will seeing is he is one of, if not the best duathlete and triathlete in the region.

Race report Sunday night!
