A documentary by Director Chris Cutri

Since we moved out west, new and exciting opportunities have been on the rise.  Besides surfing and enjoying my time here, I finally have a garage to make a mess in!  In December I lost most of my woodcuts that I created the past 8 years.  I am happy to say that I finally feel creative again and have been chiseling away.  I also flew home (NJ) to pick some works that were in progress and are finally finishing up for a show in San Francisco.

Attached are some images of my studio and works in progress.

Art Exhibition curated by Rich Jacobs, Park Life, San Francisco:

This art show promises to bring the viewer a little closer to that sound in their own head that won’t stop going, even when it is quiet, wait - is it ever really quiet? The show is an attempt by curator Rich Jacobs, to bring a lot of different influences together, and show people that are open to it, that sound, noise and even music can all be neighbors. They don’t have to get along, but they can be next to one another, at least for a month on the walls at Park Life. There will be plenty of things to see, hear, experience, and even learn from in this show; sculptural works, flat drawings, paintings, and photographs will sit on the walls next to sound pieces and home-made instruments, made specifically for this exhibition.

If you are the bay area check out the opening and gallery!

After Pine and my studio caught on fire one month ago.. my husband Mark  and I decided it would be best to take some time off and figure out the next step.  So we shoved all of our boards, wetsuits, personal belongings, and our dog Davey into the truck and headed west.  After 4 full days of driving while listening to the inauguration.. we arrived in Cardiff.   This was one of the best decisions we made in a long time.  We got the tail end of a good swell and some beautiful weather.  I think we might be here to stay, at least for awhile!!

One week ago today I faced my biggest fear.  Fire.  I want to thank everybody for their continuing support.  Mark and I wouldn't be able to get through this tragedy without you all.  Your love, thoughts, words, and encouragement is getting us through each day.

loving the west coast, yet still an east coaster at heart:)

Ann Coen Photography

Ann Coen is a self-taught photographer, with an entrepreneurial gift and adventurous soul.  She has created quite a lifestyle for herself; documenting the surf, travels, people and her immediate environment in her photo-journalistic style.

She was inspired to pick up her camera after spending her early adulthood traveling to places like Tahiti, British Columbia, New Zealand, Colorado, and Fiji. She was quickly recognized as one of the best five women photographers on the East Coast by Eastern Surf Magazine.  Over the past several years Ann has captured an international audience.

Today she resides on Long Beach Island NJ, where she recently opened her own studio.   She and her husband Jon and dog Chief look forward to traveling this winter as well as surfing and shooting some of our gnarliest winter swells here in the Garden State.

We were lucky to have Ann photographing the 2nd Annual Clam Jam.  The conditions were blustery NE 30 mph winds and swell up to 12 ft.  Ann’s photos tell all.

Enjoy the slide show and visit www.anncoen.com!
