Friends and Sponsors,
Its a new update and I have great news. I am the 2005 AMA Eastern 4-Stroke National Champion. It was a hard earned championship. I started the season on borrowed bikes and it was a rough start. I received support from Freewheeling Honda and things started to change. This past weekend was a career achievement for me.
I had a 6 point lead coming into this final round at Echeconnee Off-Road Park. The Mark Barnette built sand track was rough and choppy with big rollin berms. I love the sand and always had great rides at this track and I had confidence coming it. Practice went great I felt on pace. I had to be SMART. I could finish 2nd and still win the championship.
Moto 1 started off great with a holeshot. I pulled a comfortable gap and cruised to a easy win. Second place in points Broc Tickle had a come from behind ride for 2nd. He was riding great. I knew if he got a start. It was going to be hard. Loretta Lynn Champion Jase Lewis rounded out the podium.
Moto 2 saw Shawn Skinner with the holeshot . Myself in 2nd place. Broc Tickle in 3rd. It was going to be a battle. I pressured Skinner with no luck of a pass. I knew I had to play it smart and ride consistent to win this title. Skinner was riding great but unfortunately hit neutral in a whoop section and went down hard. Tickle and I had a clear track. He turned on the gas and put the pressure on me. Any hopes of a title would be his if I made a mistake and went down.....I had to be smart. Tickle and I continued a battle while the fans were cheering us on. It was great. He made a pass stick for a few corners and I immediately made the pass back on an inside rough corner. I had to ride the next few laps flawless in order to win. I knew I had the championship, I just wanted to go out on top. We ran into some lappers and my experience payed off. I got around them fast and opened up a small gap at the checkers. It was an unbelievable feeling.
It would not of been possbile with out the help of all my sponsors and friends. This series taught me a lot about racing and about myself . To be picked up with no ride whatsoever and win this championship against up and coming amateur champions, and to battle with Mike Brown and Clark Stiles, was a confidence booster for me. Im going to carry this on to the Supercross season!
*Special Thanks to Larry Dukes and LSD racing for getting my bike ready for the race!*
Thank you all and have a great Halloween. Sincerely, Jacob Saylor
