Talladega was the first race weekend for Corey as an Expert and on his new Yamaha R6. Due to some mechanical issues, Corey missed practice on Sat. morning, so he used his two Solo races to learn the track for his 6 races on Sun. In both of his Solo (mini Endurance races), Corey was able to better his possition by a few spots and was able to get his lap times down to match the top 10 guys.
On Sun. Corey improved each and every class that he entered. He was held up a little by his poor grid possitions, but it made him work harder. At the end of the day he took a 3rd place, two 5th place, a 6th 7th & 8th. Not bad for never ridden on this track, on the new bike and with the slipper track conditions that everyone was complaining about. At the end of the weekend, Corey's lap times were one of the fastest of everyone there.....in the top 5 or so, which we are very proud of him for.

This past Sat., we took ownership of an '06 Yamaha YZF R6. It has an Ohlins Triple clicker rear shock, extra rims, race bodywork, braided lines, etc. It's ready to go. We hope to hit our first track day real soon. Look here for more updates on that.

14 year old Corey Rech has a friend who has offered up his 40' motorhome and 30' double decker trailer for any sponsor who can come through for support for Corey for the '07 season. If he can gain the right support, he will be going to every National WERA event in '07. Any individual or company, with the right graphics on this huge rolling billboard is sure to gain attention everywhere it goes. Why invest in a billboard that sits still, when you can have a bill board drive all over the country. We plan to hit, CA, Las Vegas, FL, Georgia and everywhere in between. Please contact Corey's Step Dad at 315-638-5529 if you are interested in helping this bright up and coming road race talent.

In Corey's first full year with WERA, he has won 2 national Championships (D Superbike Novice & D Supersport Novice) and came in the top three in 8 different classes and regions. Corey went to the WERA GNF at Road Atlanta, never having seen the track before and won 3 races. Corey also won the V6 LW race which is Novice and Expert mixed. He ran second for most of the race and won, beating last years champion by .018sec. It was a very exciting weekend and Corey did great.

Corey was approached by another racer and asked if Corey would like to try his `06 R6. Corey accepted, but the only class he could run it in was the A Superstock class, which is 1000cc machines. The rider was already signed up in all of the 600 and 750 classes, so that`s all we were able to get into. That`s all he needed. Corey was gridded in last place because he never ran that class before.....he ended up finishing in 8th place, running competitive lap times that would have put him in the top 3 or 4 in a 600 class. Not bad for never riding that bike before, which wasn`t set up for his weight and only getting a few laps of practice. Corey is also fairly new to the Summit Point track, so he is coming along very nice.

Another great result from Corey. First year, first attempt, Superbike title on a Supersport machine. Corey had a great fight with 2nd place finisher James Rispoli who is a national Dirt track champion. The race was Corey`s toughest to date being down on power and giving up the lead a few times, but he never gave up and on the last lap, he went late on the brakes to take over the lead for good. Both Corey and James had a great race, catching the first wave and running with the Experts.

14 year old Corey recently solidified his first two Amateur titles in WERA this past weekend. In only his first full year of racing full sized machines, Corey was able to come back from a deficit in D Superbike (North East and Mid-Atlantic) to take the regional championship. Corey was also able to come back (after missing the first few races waiting for his bike) to miss the D Superstock Regional title by just 2 points. We’re very proud of Corey and his results from this year. We’re looking forward to the AMA Amateur Nationals in Mid Ohio later this week and heading to Road Atlanta for the WERA GNF in Oct. We received our invitation this week. It’s very exciting for his first year.

Thurs. 8/9/06 - Corey (NE WERA Novice #169) received his invitation to participate in a try out for the Moto GP Academy in Valencia Spain. There isn`t much time to get a lot done, so we will be busy over the next few weeks. We were told that there were over 1000 entrants and Corey was one of a few that were selected to particpate. Please help me in wishing Corey the best of luck and I hope to have good news before he returns.

We`re all constantly learning what we should be doing. From Corey learning the track, to myself (dad) has to learn jetting and gearing requriements. On Sat. Corey was struggling with set up because we had never been to this track, plus we were having fuel delivery problems, which was unsettling the bike. Sat`s practice and races were mostly used to figure out the track. We didn`t find out out fuel problem until Sun. morning practice and at that point, we were able to see that we didn`t have our gearing right either. Corey Dropped 3 - 4 seconds on his lap times just by finding out the issues with fuel and gearing. Each lap after that was dropping by more then a tenth. It was good to see Corey getting comfortable. We can`t wait to get back there in Sept.. Corey moved up into the top 3 in the region in D Superbike and Superstock, so hopefully we can expand on that and keep getting faster.

14 year old Corey Rech finished 1st in D Supersport and 1st in D Superbike at Nelson Ledges on 5/6 & 5/7. Because Corey has missed the first two events of the season, he will have an uphill battle to stay in the top 5 to be able to go to the GNF at Road Atlanta at the end of the year. Just going to that event this year is our goal. Our next WERA event isn`t until June 16th & 17th at Summit Point, so we will be going to Beaver Run on 5/27 for a track day in order to work on the fundementals in order to avoid 5 weeks without being on a track.
