why biking in TN gets difficult
So, this is basically a complaining note for me. I just got done with my third day of cycling weather hell. On Friday, it rained...a lot. Saturday was the same but, it came with a twenty degree drop in temperature. And then Sunday, the worst of them all, it is currently 32 degrees with a 15 degree wind chill, the wind is gusting over 35mph, I decided it was perfect weather for a 3 hour ride. The first hour wasn't to bad. I got to the pool in fine condition and preceeded to demolish a swim session of repeat 1OO's. I hopped in the shower, warmed up, ate a GU, got dressed and then, faced HELL! The wind began to gust more often, the temperature dropped further, and the heavens began to dump a thin mist on me. After 3O minutes of head wind where I could muster a speed no greater than 15mph, I finally caught a break. Sadly, this was interrupted by nearly a hudnred preteen chearleaders crossing a street directly in my path. Now, I am not horribly self-concious but, when you get that many eyes staring at you as you gasp and shiver, shifting your body from side to side to find the optimum position, you get the creeps. After this lovely showing of parental hovering and caked on make up munchkins, I was back at it. I then hit the river road, big mistake. The wind hit so hard that, true story now, I got knocked into a curb which I bunny hopped and then after recovering from that fearful moment, I was hit once more. This time, the advantage went to Mother Nature. Deciding that I needed more controversy for the day, I got bitch slapped by the wind. It hit so hard that my speed cut in half, my mouth opened in a primordial act of surprise and, my wind jacket was literally torn off my back. Oh yes, the wind grasped my day old jacket and tore through all the seems, ripping it from my back. Well, the rest of the ride was colder and windy but, I survived. All in all, a good day of resistance training but, I miss my jacket.
