What inspires you to compete?
The promise of getting a little faster with each race. The adrenaline rush and then the focusing calm right before the gun. Being able to train with great people. The challenge of changing my body from short-burst baseball player to endurance athlete.
Why do you like this sport?
Aside from the above... I love the people. Most of my best friends (including the love of my life) are triathletes and we are definitely a different breed. The friendly competition and comraderie that exists in the traithlon community is almost as addicting as the sport itself!
Do you train? What does your schedule look like?
I train a lot - don't we all? 6 days a week. 3 hard weeks and then a rest week. Time tests once a month. Bricks on Saturday's, long rides on Sundays. All over the Sacramento area - the American River trail is a favorite. Swimming is an "opportunity area" for me so I've been spending some quality time at the pool.
Do you like to travel? What's your best (clean) road trip story?
Love to travel! This summer we drove to Guerneville for Vineman and spent the night in my car in a parking lot near the venue. About 2:00 AM we woke up to some strange sounds (the windows to my car were cracked open) and groggily realized that a couple was getting amorous and using my car for balance! We just laid there like deer caught in headlights waiting for them to leave. Needless to say it took quite a while to fall back asleep!
How's Life Treating You?
Life is Good. I wish I had trademarked that before they started selling shirts at REI.
