Daytona Beach, Fla. – Dubach Racing Development (DRD) will sponsor Johnny Lewis for the 2009 AMA Pro Flat Track Championship Singles races and regional events. After supporting his Supermoto program last year, the motocross-based company has stepped into flat track with Lewis for the first time in its history. His program will be known as Scott Powersports/DRD presented by AxiomTV. Lewis will compete on a Scott Powersports Kawasaki KX450F in the AMA Pro Flat Track Championship starting this Wednesday night, March 4, for the opening round in Daytona. On the dyno, the DRD Titanium exhaust system mated to Lewis’ bike had a significant five horsepower gain. “DRD prides itself on working with top level riders in many different aspects of racing,” said Doug Dubach, owner of DRD. “I believe our ongoing support and testing with Johnny Lewis in the AMA Pro Flat Track Championship enhances the quality and performance of DRDs products.” In 2008, DRD came on board to sponsor Lewis for the XTRM AMA Pro Supermoto Championship. Last spring, Lewis got Supercross winner and 10-time Vet World Motocross Champion Doug Dubach on a Supermoto race bike for the very first time. Featured in SuperMoto Racer Magazine’s summer 2008 issue, the bike was actually Dubach’s own personal Yamaha YZ450F outfitted with Lewis’ Supermoto wheels, suspension, and other goodies. And of course it had a DRD Titanium exhaust. After his laps, Dubach stepped away from the bike with a big smile on his face. Maybe this season, Doug will take a lap on a dirt oval with Lewis’ specialized 450cc motocross-based flat tracker. “Doug and DRD joined my program last year and provided more support than I could have dreamed,” said Lewis. “Besides high-performing exhausts, they stepped up to support my participation in the Navy Moto X World Championships by loaning me Doug’s personal Yamaha YZ450F. I value the quality and performance of their exhaust systems and the personalized attention to sponsored riders, so I worked with them to come up with a deal for this year. I am so happy they are on board again and hope to show flat trackers and fans how DRD can take me to ‘The Next Step!’” Lewis will compete at the opening round of the AMA Pro Flat Track Championship on Wednesday, March 4 for the Daytona Short Track at Municipal Stadium in Daytona Beach, Florida. Round two is the very next night, Thursday, March 5, at the same venue. Daytona Beach, Fla. – While Johnny Lewis was a multi-time amateur dirt track champion, he took a risk this year to commit to the AMA Pro Flat Track Championship full-time after three years focused on Supermoto. Building his own program and coming into a series that has a large number of established competitors, he had a lot of work ahead. In Daytona, it paid off for the Scott Powersports/DRD presented by AxiomTV rider with two top fifteen finishes and the fastest qualifying time at round two. Lewis proved under the lights in Florida this week that talent, dedication and passion can go a long way. The Daytona Short Track, the opener of the AMA Pro Flat Track Championship for years, is known to break the best of racers with its evolving course. The oval at Daytona Municipal Stadium is pea gravel and changes with nearly every lap. The track is often a love-hate relationship among riders. It’s taken out the best of champions. The 2009 series opener and round two were held Wednesday night, March 4 and Thursday night, March 5, respectively. Riding a Scott Powersports Kawasaki KX450F, the 19 year-old Lewis had only raced a couple AMA Pro Flat Track events last year with so-so results. At the opening round in Daytona, Lewis qualified in the top 20 which is a feat in itself with nearly 80 racers trying to get into the night program. He went into the heat race ready to do battle. After the 10-lap heat, Lewis finished fourth transferring directly to the main. In the main, he put his cornering speed to work while also racing smart. Lewis finished a very respectable 13th place after 25 laps. “I raced the new EFI Kawasaki at an indoor dirt track and an ice race earlier this year so I had some idea of the power,” said Lewis who runs 21A in the series. “We didn’t need to do too much to the bike coming into Daytona. The DRD Titanium exhaust system we added put on another five horsepower. The first night it was important to see where I stand against the competition and what I need to work on. And of course stay upright! I know I have the skill to be in the top ten and just need more track time.” With confidence from the night before and minor adjustments to the bike, Lewis was ready to lay it out. After posting a 20.875-second lap in qualifying the first night, he ran the fastest qualifying time at round two among all competitors with a 19.663-second lap. This speed carried over to the heat race where he placed an impressive second, transferring once again directly to the main. Since he was one of the top six heat finishers, Lewis was put into the four-lap ‘Dash for Cash’ and finished in third place. Confidence in his bike and abilities continued in the 25-lap main where he finished in 12th place this time around. Lewis added, “This was a good night to say the least. My qualifying time and the heat race showed that I have the right equipment and speed to make it happen. So what needs work? I need to adjust more quickly to changing track conditions as they alter throughout the main. This week I wanted to show my sponsors that their commitment was worthwhile. Last year was a rough racing season. What we learned is becoming a benefit in many areas of my program.” Lewis sits in 11th in the AMA Pro Flat Track Championship standings. This is the first time he’s placed in the top 20 in flat track pro series points. “This would have not been possible without the support of Mike Scott of Scott Powersports, Doug Dubach and DRD, Troy Lee Designs, Pit Posse, Loud Mouth MX, all my other sponsors, and my family. Everyone has been super supportive of my return to flat track. I am definitely glad to have made the commitment to do the flat track series this year.” You can check out Lewis in Springfield, Illinois on Saturday, March 23 at the infamous Springfield TT, round three of the AMA Pro Flat Track Championship. In the meantime, he will be riding, training and working on a few other projects. To learn more about the series, visit www.amaproracing.com and be sure to read Lewis’ blog at www.prolebrity.com. Hi there, this is my first blog on my site. I guess Ill start it out with whats new.
First off, I signed with Factory KTM again for the 2007 season! Its great working with the KTM guys and riding great bikes. I will be racing the Unlimited class, this year I am going to have a few factory Unmlimited bikes, and we are going to try out some new motors (610,560, and a 505) Since the Unlimited class you can have pretty much anysize engine, we are going to try them all! That is the nice part of being Factory. As far as riding the bikes, we are going to do a few test down south. There should be a few races in Florida in March and then we are going to go out to Nevada for the Stateline race. After that the AMA series is going to be starting up. there is going to be 10 AMA rounds, and then the X games in August. We will also be trying to get some superdukes and testing them on road race tracks. We may try endurence racing on the duke! Hopefully next season KTM will release there new RC8 Road Racer and ask me to ride it! But right now I am going to focus on supermoto and win an Umlimited championship,HEHE!
As far as training goes, I have been trying to ride. The weather here in PA is warner then it usually is and there is no snow, so that means no ice riding. So I have been riding my arenacross track and building a trials course in my woods. Check out my pictures!
Sponsorships! They are coming together every good! I have struck and few new ones like KICKER, Troy Lee Designs, but also resigned with Alpinestars, ogio, Shoei, Fiberwise, K100 and still working on Utopia.
I guess thats it... Leave me a comment or something. check out my real website too, www.johnnylewis.net

AMA PRO SUPERMOTO
Supermoto Unlimited racer, Johnny Lewis, took the Team Red Bull KTM HMC #4 bike across the stripe in 1st place.
Lewis took a huge step in his career at the Music City Motorplex in Nashville, TN on Saturday night, outclassing a deep field of AMA Supermoto Unlimited competitors to claim his first-ever victory in the class.
The Pennsylvanian has shown flashes over the past two seasons under the tutelage of Team Red Bull KTM HMC owner Mitch Hansen, and Lewis’ triumph again proved Hansen an accomplished Supermoto talent scout, having earlier discovered the likes of Ben Carlson and Chris Fillmore.
In fact, Saturday’s Unlimited race was a major triumph all around for the Red Bull KTM HMC squad with class title leader Carlson opening up his points lead just a bit heading into the Long Beach season finale. Carlson took second, one spot ahead of rival David Baffeleuf of Team GP Husqvarna.
Meanwhile, Micky Dymond, the reigning class champ who was also in the thick of things this season prior to Saturday night, suffered a disastrous blow to his title hopes. While the experienced All Access Racing star tore off into the lead at the green light, he crashed in the first turn and struggled to get his bike restarted.
He ultimately finished all the way down in 13th.
Lewis took the lead following Dymond’s mishap and spent much of the race fending off teammate Carlson (with no team orders in effect, obviously). Wisconsinite Carlson was balked by a lapped rider late in the race, allowing Lewis just enough breathing space to calmly secure his first career AMA Supermoto Unlimited win.
“That was great,” Lewis commented. “I was surprised; I was running like fifth fastest all day and then in my last qualifying session I got the pole. Before that my best starting position all year was fourth. I led the whole race, which was awesome for me. I haven’t felt anything like this my whole career. I didn’t really change anything, I just felt comfortable. Growing up racing dirt track, I felt comfortable with the high speeds around the banking on the oval.”
Carlson said, “I kind of rode a little bit conservatively I guess but Johnny rode the wheels off his bike. The main thing is we stayed ahead of David and got the points, which are crucial. That’s what we needed to do. We should have come out of here with a win; I thought we could do it but sometimes you win and sometimes you lose. Long Beach ought to be a good race.”
Carlson’s runner-up finish pushes him to a still-slim four-point advantage over Baffeleuf (178 vs. 174). Lewis, meanwhile, has overtaken Dymond for third (160 vs. 157).
South African Supermoto star Brian Capper picked up fourth for the celebrating Team Red Bull KTM HMC, while Loire Racing Aero PA Husaberg’s Robert Loire came home in fifth.
Baffeleuf’s teammate, Gary Trachy, finished sixth, followed by Aprilia Pacifico Racing’s Darryl Atkins. Monte Frank (SSFU Motorsports), Justin Ross (Joker Machine QTM), and Eddie Ray (DMXS Radio) rounded out the top ten.

AMA Pro Racing press release www.amasupermoto.com
As the weather cools and most AMA Pro Racing series wind down or come to a close, the AMA Supermoto Championship is still heating up. Two events remain on the 2006 schedule with the Music City Motorplex, in Nashville, Tenn., hosting a night race on Saturday, Oct. 14, and the Queen Mary, in Long Beach, Calif., featuring the AMA Supermoto Grand Finale dubbed the “Duel at the Docks” on Sunday Nov. 5.
This year’s AMA Supermoto Championship presented by Parts Unlimited is shaping to be another battle to the season finale. Jeff Ward leads the championship on his Troy Lee Designs Honda with eight wins in the series this year. He also led last year’s championship going into the final, but lost the championship in a heartbreaking fashion, crashing in the final race and losing the title to Red Bull KTM’s Jurgen Kunzel. “I’m happy with the way the season has gone so far,” said Ward, who is coming off a victory in Elkhart Lake, Wis., a few weeks ago. “I won’t be happy until I have a big enough points lead that no one can catch me. With two rounds per event that’s hard to do, so it’s going to be important to have a solid couple of races in Nashville to put me in a strong position to win the championship.”
With the season finale at Long Beach being raced on a new circuit anything can happen. Riders who have managed to hang close in the point standings have the opportunity to rally to the top of the standings. Conversely riders near the top of the standings coming into the Grand Finale face a challenge of maintaining their consistency.
Ward won the AMA Supermoto Championship in 2004. Graves Motorsports Yamaha’s Doug Henry was, along with Ward, a pre-season favorite to win the 2006 title. He came back spectacularly winning the first two rounds after missing the second half of 2005 with injury. Few will argue that Henry is perhaps the fastest Supermoto rider on the planet when he’s on, but riding at that pace can come with a cost and Henry has experienced more falls than he would have hoped so far this year.
“It seems like every time I take a step forward I end up taking two steps back,” Henry said of his 2006 campaign. “Right now it’s going to be tough to catch Wardy, but we still have quite a bit of racing ahead of us and things can change pretty drastically in a single race. So you never know.”
Young Chris Fillmore broke through to win his first race in Elkhart Lake. The Troy Lee Designs Honda rider now has the confidence of knowing he can win. At 19 he’s still improving every week and should Ward or Henry slip in the closing stages of the season Fillmore could move up from his current third in the standings.
Mark Burkhart, like his Graves Yamaha teammate Henry, has suffered too many crashes this year after winning every round of the Supermoto Lites Series that he competed in 2005. The fourth-ranked Burkhart has two wins so far this year and he’s hoping to add a few more to his tally before the end of the season. The Ohioan seems to shine when the spotlight is on. He won both rounds of the Supermoto season finale last year in Reno.
Defending champ Jurgen Kunzel has had a slew of bad luck this season. In spite of that the possibility still exists that the Red Bull KTM rider could pull off another dramatic come-from-behind run in the last few rounds. Kunzel returns to Nashville in a few weeks. The Music City Motorplex was the site of his first win in the series last season.
Cassidy Anderson has been the dominant rider in AMA Hot Wheels Supermoto Lites this season, winning seven of the eight rounds on his Troy Lee Designs Honda leading up to Nashville. In spite of Anderson’s overwhelming win advantage, Graves Yamaha’s Brandon Currie has hung tough and is still in the title chase with a string of runner-up finishes combined with a win in Denver in August.
The most competitive series in AMA Supermoto this year is the 70/30 Racing Supermoto Unlimited class. There Team Red Bull KTM HMC’s Ben Carlson and GP Husqvarna’s David Baffeleuf have been trading the series lead back and forth with defending champ Micky Dymond just a few points back in third on the All Access Racing KTM.
In addition to series regulars the AMA Supermoto Series could be spiced up by special visiting racers in the coming rounds. Several of the World Supermoto Series contenders have visited America so far this year. World Supermoto star Bernd Hiemer was victorious in his wild card weekend at USA International Raceway in Shawano, Wis., in June. He promised to return. Other popular occasional Supermoto riders such as Travis Pastrana and Jeremy McGrath are possible entries in the Grand Finale as are a few AMA road racing stars.
The race at the Music City Motorplex will be in its third year and the event has grown each year. The venue is great for fans who can view the entire track from the grandstands, and added this year, actually get up close and personal with the Supermoto action by viewing from the infield.
Running in conjunction with both of the last two rounds of the pro series, the AMA Sports Supermoto Grand Championships in association with NASMOTO will offer fans a weekend full of racing excitement from both pro’s and amateurs like. For further details of the Nashville Regional Qualifier and the Grand Championships at the Queen Mary visit www.nasmoto.com.
