Hello All!

Unfortunely didn't make it to the Hare Scramble in Edson this past weekend but had a good evening ride on Sunday. Very technical.

Coming up we have the Race Horse X-Country. This race is always very challenging, last year I got worked over on it. This year I hope to have a respectable finish.

Thanks ALl!

Hello All!

I just wanted to post that I rode some moto yesterday and had a great time! Its been SOO long since my focus has been mostly off-road and I almost forgot how much I loved it!!

As an added bonus, I seem to be the same speed (with little to no practice) so when I kick it up I should be raring to go!

Thanks All!

Wild time in Austria

Imagine 500 dirt bikes racing up the side of an old iron mine, clattering for position and attempting to make their way through steep, rocky, dusty terrain that at times is wide enough for only one racer.

That’s the scene for the Erzberg Rodeo Harescramble in Austria, where two of Cochrane’s dirtbikers competed earlier this year in this chaotic event.

Jared Thomas and Jill Kings took part from June 11 to 14 in the race, which attracted over 1,500 competitors, but is designed to have far fewer cross the finish line.

“They want the least amount of finishers they can get,” said Thomas, who called the race one of the top ten extreme offroad dirtbiking events in the world.

“It’s pretty much a gong show from the moment they wave the flag at the start. It’s absolute mayhem,” he added.

From the initial 1,500 entrants, only 500 made it to the final race and from that 500, only 21 bikers were able to finish the race within the five-hour time limit.

Kings was fifth in qualifying in the Lady division, but didn’t make it to the final race.

Thomas wasn’t one those few that finished, winding up 97th overall, and was disappointed he didn’t get to the end. Although the experience was positive, he said he’d hoped to get much closer to the end or even finish.

“You could always say it’s about the experience, but I trained quite hard for this race and I expected a lot more. Sometimes in racing you have one of those days where it doesn’t work out for you whether it’s luck or just the way that your race day goes,” he said.

That could involve jostling for position with as many as 200 racers at a time, with many going in opposite directions, he said.

“Sometimes it’s just luck. It’s so dusty you can barely see your hand in front of your face, but you know there’s a hill there and you know you have to go there. You basically just pull the throttle or hope for the best,” he added

Sunday was the CMRC Grizzly Cross-Country, was the very first cross country that I finished my entire race!! (2 races did 1 of 2 loops.., so bascially 3/5 haha but actually only 3rd Cross-Country)

Next year I am hoping to do all of the local/close CMRC Off-Road races as I think it awesome practice! I will ride the CMA events that I can but I will really be focusing on the CMRC Series.

At the race, I rode really well had a great start and rode clean. BUT when I screwed up I messed up bad! I got stuck in a 4x4 swallowing hole, a spongey mud area after a over the bars face plant, missed the turn and feel into a creek and lastly went of trail in an ewok-esque area!! I finished, 13th in Junior, and I am pretty darn happy!

THanks to all the guys that helped me!

NHB and I returned home yesterday after a weekend of riding in Racehorse Creek area. The weather was wonderful on Saturday Morning, then poured rain Saturday afternoon! I rode a loop called "the spine" which takes us up on top of some mountians which was really neat, and it was definitly challenging in the rain.

Sunday, we rode much of the same it was slippery and the logs where ruthless!!  It was good, today I am looking forward to recovery swim, bicycle ride and some bodyflow (tai chi/yoga/pilates) should be loverly!!

Also, lap times still aren't posted from the Fallen Timber Harescramble last week, neither are pictures when they are up I will post!

Thanks!!

UPDATE:: ALso, I will be starting a new form of blogging! Stay Tuned!!  Should be up and running this evening!!

Due to our unpredictable and rainy weather the Xtreme Hare Scramble this weekend has been cancelled. It has be tenatively postponed until September long weekend, if this happens I will be racing a double header that weekend!

We are headed south to do some riding and camping this weekend, I am very excited and will post pictures from the race last weekend as soon as they are up!

Hello All!!

Finished my 2nd CMA Race at Fallen Timber on August 1st. It was a super fun race, loop was techinical and flowy in portions so gave you a break between the really challenging and the fast fun! I had a decent start, but the kid to my right crashed and I ran into him causing me to fall and have to get up and catch up the rest of the guys! Luckily there was a traffic jam and I managed to pass a whole bunch of dudes, and move up the pack. For the first couple logs guys where EVERYWHERE, and they werent even that bad. A fellow who was behind me tried to jump me on a log, but I managed to bust past him and pull 6 km on by the finish!! I passed a few guys, there where some DNF's, and I came up a respectable 4th! Hoping for top 3 next week!

I will post pictures as soon as they are up!

Coming up:

August 8th: CMA Extreme Hare Scramble, Moose Mountain/Fallen Timber

Thanks all!
