Q&A - Competition
How did you get started?
I was just an old college runner and marathon runner, with a mountain bike....then I bought a road bike and then I went to the pond to do open water swimming....next I bought a wetsuit. The rest is history!
List your competitive highlights
In my first tri, 5430 Long Course, I broke 3 bones in my foot in T1! I didn't know it was broke until mile 15 of the ride...I figured "I can't run, might as well ride hard!".
A month later I signed up for IM Louisville. My first "finished" tri was Pacific Crest 2007. I completed the half in 5:25! I followed that performance with a great day in Louisville 12:14. I am an Ironman!
What are you planning for next season?
I will be racing IM Wisconsin, a 70.3, Pacific Crest 1/2, and some local tri's and du's. The big goal is to gain a Kona qualifier in the next 2-3 years and next year USAT long course or 70.3 worlds.
What has been your biggest accomplishment?
Wow! I suppose if it is about Tri's, it would be keeping my mind clear and positive in each race I completed this year, ending with the IM. I never once doubted and I let the race come to me. Once you train and race an IM you fully understand it is not just you crossing that finish line, it is every single person that helped you, supported you and sacrificed for you to get to the race and for you to race your best. I think the best accomplishment is realizing that you did not do it alone!
