Sweet Sweet Victory
March 11-12, 2006
Victory at California Speedway for Jake Mottaz and LeMans Karting.
Grey skies were all I saw, being rained, sleeted and snowed on multiple times on the way down to Fontana, California. This was the first of the ‘Tirerack SCCA ProSolo series for 2006. If you do not know what ProSolo is, the Tire Rack SCCA ProSolo combines the excitement of drag racing and the skill of Solo on side-by-side, mirror-image autocross courses. Lining up at the familiar “Christmas Tree” start, drivers compete heads-up in various classes by combining their fastest times from each course.
Saturday March 11:
Just as the weather man predicted, rain poured down all throughout the day. When we showed up at the site, the track was wet with many puddles intimidating the Formula Junior drivers.
Luckily the officials declared it a rain day, allowing us to switch to rain tires, and a special rain set-up.
Driving in the rain was a blast. After my morning runs I was soaked, and had over a three second lead on the seven kart field. Now, all I could do was hope for clear skies on Sunday.
Sunday March 12:
Well it wasn’t exactly dry, but at least it was not raining. Now it was starting to get close between the competitors and times on the left course were within a tenth of each other. But, because of Saturday’s gap my lead held up an by the end of the day I was still ahead by over three seconds in combined time.
All in all it was a fun weekend, and I was proud to have represented LeMans Karting at the 2006 SCCA Fontana ProSolo.
