Training plans / How I will achieve my goals

I will follow a periodized program to make sure I am in injury free and at my highest fitness levels at the most important races of the year.

I will progressively build a strong aerobic base through increased volume over the next two years. I currently average 12-16 hours a week and plan to build this to 15-20 hours a week.

I will include high intensity intervals and lots of rest and recovery when the season comes around to make sure I am fit and recovered when racing.

I will race a lot (approximately 25 races a year) and in various disciplines (cross country, cyclo-cross, Team 12/24 hour, road racing) to help keep motivation up throughout the year and to improve on my strengths and weaknesses.

My training and racing will involve the use of an Ergomo power meter to help maximize my training and to help evaluate my racing to the fullest capacity.

I will include National caliber races throughout the year to make sure the toughest competition is at my most important races.

I will be using Doug Bush’s (endurancefactor.com) coaching expertise to help plan my training and racing throughout the years to come. He is a level 1 USAC coach and has over 10 years of coaching experience.

Q&A - Personal

What inspires you to compete?

There is no one thing that inspires me to compete. It is a combination of everything that surrounds mountain biking including the people involved, the environment, the different race venues, the excitement and anticipation at the starting line, the adrenaline filled downhills, the excruciating and painfull uphills, and the many new challenges I encounter every day. I guess what it comes down to is self-fullfillment and fun all in one sport. Accomplishing new goals and challenging yourself each and every day.

Describe your style...

Flowing as much as possible. Going through every turn as fast as possible while loosing as little momentum in the process. Smooth and "light" on the bike. I am always looking for that new and undiscovered line on the trail.

Employment / Experience Summary

I am a Level 3 cycling coach working with Endurance Factor Llc. My plans within the next 3 months are to get my Level 2 coaching license and also get my Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist certification through the NSCA. In addition to coaching, I help manage a family owned citrus/retail store in Fort Myers, Florida. Prior to this I went to Gettysburg college in Pennsylvania and got my bachelors degree in Health and Exercise Sciences. Also while attending Gettysburg I participated on the track and field team taking gold medals in events including the Decathlon, 4x100, 4x200, 4x400, and Pole Vaulting.

Do you train? What does your schedule look like?

Training is a must at the expert / semi-pro / pro levels of mountain biking. I train anywhere from 12-20 hours per week depending on the time of year and if I am in season or out of season.

Music?

I like all types of music. It all depends on what mood I am in. Anything from rap to trance to country.
