Q&A - Personal

What inspires you to compete?

The whole biking atmosphere is thrilling. The rush you get as soon as you head out to the mountain is exciting all in its own. The adrenaline just constantly rushes through your veins all day up until that one moment you're at the starting gate. As soon as that bell rings, you unleash it all and give it all you've got. It inspires me to push myself to my extremes and nothing can ever match the feeling you get once you cross that finish line.

Why do you like this sport?

This sport is amazing in basically every aspect. First of all, the people are probably the most laid back and all around friendliest people I have ever encountered in any sport. I find that mountain biking and racing brings you together with people you could trust your life with. Everyone has one main goal, which is to have a good time. In addition, I believe that progression is another major part of the sport. I think that downhill racing doesn't get the publicity it deserves. Guys go super fast on mountain bikes down extremely rough and sketchy terrain. These guys don't get enough credit, and I think it is part of our duty to try and push the sport as far as we can. Words can't describe the ultimate feeling of satisfaction after progressing in this sport. Overall, the adrenaline pumping, friendly environment, and a goal to achieve make this my favorite sport.

What has been your most embarrassing moment?

Probably one of my most embarrassing moments had to be at diablo freeride park. One day i was riding with a bunch of buddies and they were taking a break. I decided to ride ahead and pass this girl. Of course, I had to showoff for the ladies I aired it off this dirt mound. After going up the lip of this mound of dirt i realized i had gone way too high and I landed on the side of it where my tires instantly lost traction. I slid out and lying in a pile of dirt while this girl and all of my buddies were standing there laughing at me. Luckily I was alright and I just laughed it off. Good times!!!

How's Life Treating You?

Life is treating me very well actually. I can't complain, I have a lot of freedom and I can't thank my parents enough. I have a lot of free time so I can ride a lot. I ride at Diablo Freeride Park every single weekend. I never miss a week. During the weekdays when the park is not open I head out to local hotspots like Blue Mountain and Graham Hills and take the cross country bike for a spin. I guess you could say it is like training for downhill. Sometimes I take a few downhill runs with my other bike, depending on my mood. All in all I would say life is treating me very well and I am just excited for the next races that are coming up. I also plan to join the Lehigh downhill race team when I go off to college. Thats another thing I look forward to.

Do you train? What does your schedule look like?

I somewhat train for downhill races. I wouldn't say I necessarily keep a strict regimen, but I go to the gym 3-5 days week and I ride a total of about 3-5 days a week. At the gym I like to lift weights in order to build strength for pedaling faster and harder. I also do some cardio vascular work in order to maintain my endurance. I also take a spinning class sometimes at my local gym. It is very helpful for when I hop on the mountain bike, because pedaling is somewhat effortless. I just finished my senior of high school and during that time I would not have as much time to ride but I would always make sure to squeeze it into my schedule. I am truly a die hard rider.
