Who’d ever thought riding a board that is really more like a traditional kneeboard would be the next big thing? We all know Slater started the trend and has since inspired some other guys like Shane to give it a go and here’s proof that they work insane. Well at least for guys like Shane and Kelly. What about you, have you tried ripping on one of these tiny boards?

As we’ve said in previous posts, to get really good at something you usually have to take some beatings along the way. Here is Freestyle rider and 2007 Down Hill World Champ Sam Hill proving if you want to stay at the top you’re still have take some beatings. Fortunately Sam still managed to ride away from this crash and finish the race. And yes, his still hunt for the 2009 World Championship!

Before the 9 world titles, before signing a head to toe deal with Quiksilver, before officially becoming the greatest surfer in history, Kelly Slater was a Freestyle Team Rider. Enjoy this Freestyle Flashback to 1988 - Surfing Magazine Cover featuring Kelly and his White Shark.

As we’ve said before, in order to get real good at something, especially to get to a pro level, it takes a lot of hard work, and yes you unfortunately are going to take some beatings and get hurt sometimes. I doubt there’s a pro skater in the world that hasn’t seriously broken a bone. Here’s a real life example for you. Our boy Sky Siljeg unfortunately just busted his arm up pretty bad when he slid out on some dust in the flats after landing a huge judo air. Sky told us the doctors wanted to cut his Lopex Watch off his wrist, but he’d said no and somehow fought through the pain to remove the watch which was super tight because of his swollen wrist. Gnarly! Check out the watch tan line in the first shot! So ya, Sky may be bumming right now but there’s no doubt he’s going to come back stronger, faster, and even more determined to take his skating to the next level. Enjoy this throwback video of Sky from a year ago, and ya he’ll be back! Please drop some comments to wish Sky a speedy recovery.
