Erik Schmidt's father Larry Schmidt has been preparing and racing rally cars since the early 1970’s. When his son was born in May of 1983, Erik was dragged around the United States watching his father race his Yellow ’77 Dodge Colt at some classic rallyies that are still raced today.

Just as Erik's mother had always feared, the "Rally Bug" bit Erik. Erik re-learned of rally while attending a local rally-x in friends VW Golf.

Erik soon after teamed up with Jared Hanson and decided to build a 1995 Dodge Neon ACR. They started by converting the car from a SCCA Spec Neon to a setup that would make it through a Rally. Larry did provide the know how in getting the neon ready for the 2002 Colorado Cog Club Rally. Erik and Jared made it thought the first event with no major problems. The Neon would however not make it though the next event, and would be totaled after the 2003 100 Acer Woods Rally in Salem, MI.

Jared soon turned his interest towards 4-wheeling and Erik was left without a driver.

Erik and Larry soon found themselves a 1995 Subaru Impreza L with the 1.8L engine. They both knew the 1.8L engine had to go and the 2.5L Subaru engine was swapped in. The car was built from the ground up, and finished the 2003 Colorado Cog Rally in 6th overall and 3rd in Open Class.

The Next year at cog would be Erik’s first rally. Erik and Larry traded spots and with Erik’s father making the calls finished 10th overall and 7th in open class.

At the beginning of 2005 Erik and Larry decided to start a business for fabricating rally cars and parts called L and E Fabrication LLC.
