Why Fat Lip?

Because we love gravity. And waves. And speed. And that means we are destined to one day reach the place where courage (or poor judgement) and pain inevitably meet.

That place is Fat Lip.

It’s not necessarily a bad place. In fact, having been there can be a badge of honor. It gives us something to bro-down about. It’s an indelible souvenir from the trip of a lifetime. It means we went bigger, tried harder, learned something and, most importantly, didn’t turn and run like little schoolgirls.

So, whether you just paddled into your first 50-footer at Mavericks, stuck your first grind or dropped into your first half-pipe, if you earned a Fat Lip along the way, we salute you!

Our History
We were born as a garage project in 1989 and quickly grew to sell in surf and skate shops across the USA, Japan and the U.K. We went quiet for a few years, back to selling to our friends and making appearances at local events.

Last year, the original founder of our company suffered a spinal injury downhill mountain biking at Whistler and sketched the beginnings of a new line while waiting in the Emergency room for the orthopaedic surgeons to get to him. The essence of those sketches can be seen in our new line. We hope you like it.
