Driver News on Eric Filgueiras

Round 2 of the Florida Kart Championship Series(FKCS) rolled around this weekend, With Eric Filgueiras Coming in with two 1st place podium and a 4th for Rotax Jr. and Easykart 100. And this particular weekend, he would be ‘testing the waters’ in the TaG Jr. class running on his SSC East CRG/Rotax package. Saturday would be a good day, as Eric would sweep the Rotax class with ease, taking the qualifying, Pre-Final & Final. TaG Jr would show to be more of a challenge for the CRG driver, With not having the time or enough financial backing for new tires would show a bad qualifying and would be forced to start 11th. With starting in the back, Eric would finish in 6th. in the pre final and would finish a strong 4th place in the final. Sunday would be very good as well, with some fun morning sessions in the rain Eric would prove his dominance in the rain by posting 3 quickest out the entire FKCS driver field. But as qualifying came around, the track dried up with Eric starting in 2nd on pole for the race. This was caused by having no brakes on the kart. In the pre- Final, though the brand new brake pads would stick to the disc, and a tire going down Eric would have to settle to for 4th. With one of the problems being fixed, however Filgueiras would demonstrate his adaptability by overcoming his starting deficiency in the final and making it a 3-way battle for first with both Rhea’s. Even with John Rhea able to best Filgueiras’ fastest lap he could not hold the position and gave up with 3 laps to in the race to Filgueiras. Rounding out the podium were both John and Dorothy Rhea in 2nd and 3rd respectively. Eric is on a mission to get his 3rd consecutive Title in Easykart 100cc. in 2009.

Eric would like to thank all of his sponsors and parents for everything over the weekend.

Driver news and progression of Eric Filgueiras

As the annual Florida Kart Championship Series rolled around, already 3-time in a row FKCS Champion Eric
Filgueiras was feeling very optimistic for the 2009 season. Saturday would show to be a good one, as Eric would do a clean sweep in the Rotax Jr. category with no battle from any of the opposition, winning the pole award and fast time, Pre-final & Final. Sunday would look to be a different story, though. As moving the seat backwards on the kart would show for less grip in the front end, Eric would start 2nd on the grid only behind by .059 tenths of a second. The Pre-final would start out terribly for the young driver, as he would be put back a row due to an incompetent pole-sitter. Rain would go on and off during the Pre-final, finally ending it, and not able to run a final heat race, where the times showed that on the pre-final Eric was faster than the 1st place driver Eric finishing in an upsetting fourth.

Eric’s next month and a half has a variety of races including:

-Florida Winter Tour round 3 races 5 & 6 at Ocala Grand Prix.
-Florida Kart Championship Series round 2 at Ocala Grand Prix.
-F.A.R.A. racing series round 1 at Homestead Miami Speedway.

He would like to thank all of his sponsors for making this possible Mg Tires, Impact Racing, NGK, Speedcom & Shock Doctor, Ocean Potion, Alfano, Ribtect, SSC East, F1 Boston, Performance Drink, F1R Factory One Racing and Battery Tender

Remember if you run hard you’ll always stay cool!!!!!!!!!!

Another year is complete for Florida driver Eric Filgueiras and the young pilot is now looking forward to the 2008 season. The 2007 season began strong with the Florida Winter Tour Mini Max Championships and then on to the WKA Regionals in Easykart 100. Eric ended the year coming in second at the Easykart Grand National in 100cc, and picking up some new sponsors for 2008.

Driving a new Birel RX30SE in Jr Rotax for Rysa Racing at for the Florida Winter Tour, Eric will also be running the Florida regionals in Jr Rotax and Easykart 100. When not in the kart, Eric will be learning and testing the Renault 1600, with the help of Jim Booth who is providing the car for Eric at Juncos Competitions. Eric will be schooling with Juncos on in January at Palmetto in Tampa and might run a couple of races in FARA in 2008 but it all will depend on sponsorship and schedule.

Eric would like to thank the wonderful people whom have helped and influence him so much and have been part of his life. Jim Booth for his support with out him this could not be possible, Rudy from Rysa Racing & Easykart of America, Luis & Wagner and Munier from Mg Tires and Alfano, Joann from Ocean Potion, Bill Simpson from Impact Racing, Jim Vasser, Max Papis, Will Prappas, also everyone at MRP, Mike Savage from Savage Design, and all of Eric’s friends  & competitors. Driver Racing News: Eric Filgueiras

The Easykart Grand National was held on September 15th & 16th in Monticello, Florida and the first day did not go as planned, it started out when the engine blew while breaking in the engine.  So that night the engine was rebuilt and the same engine blew for the second time. The team’s sponsor, Rudy from Rysa racing gave us another engine to break-in so the first two days was nothing but breaking-in engines. When qualifying came around we qualified 4th out 15 drivers, that was not bad for a kid that went through all of that.

How it worked was there were 3 pre-finals and in each pre-final a driver had to start where you qualified each time.  When all the pre-final races were over Eric got two 3rd places and a 7th which gave him an overall 2nd place. How that worked was all the pre-finals were tallied together to see what position the drivers would start. When the green flag dropped Eric was in 2nd. But a few laps into the race the leader Daniel Formal blew a chain and Eric took the lead. The kart got tight through the end and we finished with 2nd place. Joffrey Amaya, the last years 100cc Champ won for the 3rd time and will be going to Italy.

Considering that Eric is a rookie in the 100cc and did go to Italy last year in 60cc class it’s alright, he has two more years in this class and also in a matter of almost a year Eric has won the Easykart Grand National in 60cc last year, the WKA State Title, the Winter Tour Mini Max 125 Championship, WKA State Championship in the 100cc class and second in this weeks Easykart Grand National, I'd say he's done pretty good!!!

A big thank you to all the people and sponsors that have done so much for my son, Rysa Racing, Easykart, Jim Booth, MG Tires, Ocean Potion, Impact Racing, Ribtect, Homestead-Miami Speedway, Alfano and the rest of our new sponsors Amsoil, Tekbolt, Fuel and Fiber Wise.

January 2007

Mini Max

An exciting grid of 35 Mini Max drivers took to the track in Saturday qualifying to get things started and it was Canadians Jesse Lazare and Anthony Furfari who would set the pace. Lazare posted a 51.094 in his SH Karting Tony Kart to win the pole while Furfari was not far behind in is new Juncos chassis, just 0.025 seconds back. Eric Filgueiras (Birel) was also in the hunt, turning his first laps in a Rotax package, showing that the characteristics of the engine were to his liking. Filgueiras would continue to impress in the Prefinal, winning by a scant margin over Alex Karabourniotis (Sodikart). The duo would fight it out early in the Final before Filgueiras took control, assuming the lead and pulling away to the 2.026-second victory. Jordan Perry would complete the podium in third while Artem Korolev and Pietro Fittipaldi da Cruz capped the top five.

On Sunday, Filgueiras had a new challenger in Dore Chaponick Jr. (Birel), who turned up the wick in qualifying to steal the pole late in the session with a 51.157-second lap that edged Filgueiras’ 51.227. Jesus Rio Jr. was third on the time chart, just ahead of Steven Michael Kowalski and Lazare. In the 10-lap Prefinal, Chaponick and Filgueiras teamed up to pull away from the field, making sure that no one else was going to mess with their party. In the Final, they stuck with the program and eventually built a gap over Kowalski, Furfari and Rios, setting up the battle for the win. The dice would end just after the halfway point when the duo got together, sending Chaponick into a spin that the officials deemed a racing incident. Filgueiras would go unchallenged for the win with Chaponick continuing on to finish 11th after restarting. Kowalski advanced to second and joined Filgueiras on the podium along with third place finisher Rios.

The Florida Series WKA banquet was held on 07/28/2007 at Nascar Sports Grille in Orlando Universal Studio City Walk.  The event was a great one.  It has been the best yet with lots of food, prizes and awards. Eric won the Easykart Championship last year in 60cc and this year he was a rookie in 100cc Easykart.  With 2 wins and 3 seconds, he took the 100cc title in his rookie season. Eric is now focused in the Easykart Grand National in Monticello Florida which will be held on September 14-16, 2007.  If he wins he will be going back to Italy to represent the US in 100cc class. This is what he is looking forward to.  Eric would like to thank all our sponsors for their support; with out them this could not be possible. Thank You Jim Booth with McDonalds, Bill Simpson from Impact Racing, Rudy from Rysa Racing & Easykart, Luis and Wagner from Mg Tires & Alfano and Robby from Ribtect. We are also going to be announcing new sponsors for the 2008 in the near future.

Thank you for a great Season.
