Thinking back to when you were an amateur, what was the most difficult part of getting sponsored?
I think just getting to each race is one step of it while working hard during the week and then basically it is just results. And then even at that if your results are just mediocre, I mean, I wasn’t blazing anything up while coming up. It also comes down to being at the right place at the right time. When I went out to California just to kind of ride during the winter, I ended up being in the right place at the right time. It also depends who you know; that helps too. In the end, if you work hard and get results, you’re gonna get it.

Who works on all your sponsorship deals now? Do you hook up all of your deals, or do you have an agent?
I have an agent now, but before I didn’t. I just got OMF last year. I always used to do it myself and when I was first starting out it wasn’t that big of a deal because it wasn’t as much as a money thing. It’s more money now so it’s kind of hard to deal with and I’m kind of a push over (laughs) and real easy going so it really depends on the person. Some guys still do it themselves.

When do you begin thinking about sponsorship for the upcoming season?
It started early this year. It depends on how everything goes through the supercross. If you have a really good supercross season and maybe 2-3 races into the outdoor season it usually starts up. So this year it’s super early, but normally a couple races before the end of the season or sometimes even after.
