Elysia's Beloved SponsorsQ&A with DirtyGirl!
Why do you compete?
Why do I compete...more like why can't I not compete?!? I am one of those people with a competitve spirit. I love racing, it is so much fun to go out and try your best and see what happens. The excitement, the drama, the highs, the lows; I love it all. You can train as hard as you can but the real break throughs happen in the race itself. Nowhere can you push yourself harder mentally and physically than in a race. I don't know what else to say other than I compete because it is fun and a one of a kind experience.
What inspires you to compete?
My inspiration to compete comes from within. Nobody pushes me to race, if anything they are begging me not to because they are afraid I will get injured. I love going to races and trying to put together the most consistent and fastest ride that I can. Its all about pushing yourself to achieve your highest potential and it is so fun when you cross the finish line breathless and tired and excited and happy because you just achieved a higher level of riding than your last race or ride and it is such a satisfying feeling.
Do you train? What does your schedule look like?
Well, since I broke my back in June I've had to take things pretty slowly. I just got back into the gym about a month ago and had to start at square one. That was kind of disheartening at first because when I crashed I was in really good shape and worked hard to get to that point, and here I was walking for cardio and using three and five pound weights because that was all my back and my muscles could take. I've been making a lot of progress since that first day. Some days my back hurts and I have to take it down a notch and other days I feel as if I had no problems at all so I take it one day at a time. I've been hitting up the gym about 3 days a week and trying to do some runing and hiking on the days I'm not at the gym. I'll really see if my efforts have paid off my first time back on the bike - either I'll be able to ride without much pain or I won't be able to ride at all I'm guessing. But I'm pretty sure that everything will be ok and I can go back to doing what I love the most: riding and racing!
Music?
I love music! So much, it is definitely part of my everyday life. A day without music would be pretty strange to me. I'm mostly into hard rock, metal, melodic hardcore, some rap, classic rock, and I really like Fergie. I always listen to music when I'm driving to the track, while I'm getting my gear on, and to get pumped up before a moto. It is good to unwind to it too.
What do you want to be when you grow up?
I've never really liked this question until I figured out the best answer for it... I want to be happy when I grow up! I guess at 22 I'm somewhat grown up but most adults still refer to me as a kid for some reason. Happiness is all I really want at any point in my life, and whatever job or career makes me happy is probably the most success I could ask for. To me, it doesn't make much sense to have a job that you despise and has you hating life everyday even if it makes you a bunch of money. But hey, if you can find something you love that makes you truck loads of money, all the better...which I'm sure everyone would like to do, but I haven't quite figured out what that is yet. Hopefully it will have to do with dirt bikes or at least give me plenty of time to ride :)
