Kankakee County Speedway on Friday night and Fairbury Speedway on Saturday night.

- Friday, August 28, We once again traveled to the Kankakee County Speedway where I would try to better my previous weekends finish, which was seventh. With the rain coming down earlier in the afternoon, the track was going to be tacky from the start of the night to the end of the night, something I was not looking forward too. I rolled out to qualify, and in the one lap they gave me I managed to turn the 12th fastest time of the field. I would start in the fourth position of the first ten lap heat race. I wound up going backwards in the race, finishing in the sixth position. With a disappointing run in the heat race, I was egger to step up my level in the 25 lap feature event. I would be starting in the 14th position, which would mean that I would have to look down the track to avoid accidents. Right away on the start of the race, a caution flew out. As soon as the restart went green I went to the outside and raced there the whole night, picking off six drivers until there was a caution with four to go. As the race restarted I went to the high side, though I should have stayed on the bottom, and the driver behind me drove right by me. When the checkered waved, I was in the eighth position.

- Saturday, August 22, I got to return to the race track on a Saturday night after a few weeks of Friday mishap creating to much damage to race on a Saturday. I returned to the familiar Fairbury Speedway, where I would qualify in the 25th position out of 29 cars. This set me up for a starting position of ninth in the first ten lap heat. At the end of ten lap heat I finished in the sixth position, which would mean I would start third in the twelve lap consolation race. I finished one spot worse than where I started. The thirty lap main event saw me starting the 20th position, last. I struggled from the beginning of the race, trying to figure out where I should run. The bottom was very rough, causing one car to flip during the race, and the top had no grip coming off which also created a car to hit the wall hard. The middle seemed like the place to be, so I ran that line. When the checkered flew I managed to stay out of trouble and finish in the eleventh position.

- Catch me at Hartford on Friday, September 4, take a break on Saturday the 5, and arrive at Eldora for the ALMS sanctioned Baltes Classic on September 6.

- Friday, August 21, the race team traveled to Kankakee County Speedway with a special guest, Uncle Eddy. The car was fast from the get go as I qualified 12th, with touring drivers such as Feger, Sievert, Heckenast Jr. and Sr., Unzicker, Schmitt, Loomis and the Provenzano’s, I thought I was doing pretty good. In the second ten lap heat race, I started in the fourth position. The car had a little too much forward bite which made the car too tight. I lost one position from my starting spot once the checkered flag dropped. The feature line up had me placed in the 13th position. The 25 lap feature was underway quick, and in the first corner a few cars spun on the bottom, I barely snuck by that one. A complete restart was ordered and we went five laps until the car in front of me spun around and I went between the wall and the spun driver, once again sneaking by. The green flag dropped and we went about ten laps before another caution came out, and I was up to tenth. The green flag returned to the speedway, and I jumped up on the high side picking off three more drivers. With two laps to go, another caution flew for a spinning driver. On the restart I went up to the high side again, we came around for the next lap and I was gaining on sixth place. On the back stretch I was up to his quarter panel. We came off of four to get the white flag, and when I went to turn into one, I noticed that the whole track was blocked off by numerous cars. I choose to go over the corner to avoid the pile up, the car spun around on me and I backed into the concrete wall. Luckily the race officials decided to call off the race due to the amount of damaged cars and went to the last lap scored, which I was in the seventh position. I was very pleased about the finish because of who I was racing against but not about the end result.

- Saturday, August 22, we did not race due to the extent of the damage.

I would like to thank Uncle Eddy and Aunt Sherrill for coming this weekend. Also I would like to apologize to Sherrill because of the accident on Friday, she was not able to see me race on Saturday.

- Catch me at Kankakee on Friday, August 28, and Fairbury on Saturday, August 29.

- Friday, August 14, We returned to the Kankakee County Speedway which is under new management, and it is going to be the place to race on Friday nights. The Monster Midwest Series invaded the track with a purse of $2,000. After the two timed laps were completed for each driver, I was recorded in the 21st position. That set me up in the final row of the second ten lap heat race. The car did not handle as good as I wanted it to but I managed to come up through the field to finish in the sixth position, missing the transfer to the main but one spot. The consolation race had me start on the pole position. I led the first six laps of the race until a caution came out. I got the chance to restart a race, its not as hard as I thought it was. I led one more lap until I slipped up the track and let the driver behind me take the lead. I manage to stay in the second position which would allow me to start in the 40 lap feature event. I would start in the tenth row inside. The first few laps were crazy, as the leaders were driving all over the place causing the rest of the field to bunch up. A caution came out right away within the first lap, causing a complete restart. Before the green flag dropped for the restart, the driveshaft fell out.

- Saturday, August 15, Unfortunately the car was not ready to race at Fairbury for the second leg of the double header weekend for the Monster Midwest Series

Kankakee County Speedway on Friday night and Fairbury Speedway on Saturday night.

- Friday, August 7th, Racing at Kankakee was cancelled due to rain.

- Saturday, August 8th, The team geared up for another run at Fairbury Speedway. With the Monster Midwest Series coming to Fairbury next weekend, we made the plans to get some seat time at the track before the series came. 42 Late Models hit the track, including Dennis Erb, and a few other touring drivers, and only 20 started the 30 lap feature event. In qualifying I slipped going into turn three causing the car to jump the cushion. With one timed lap, I qualified 32nd. I started in the eighth position in the third ten lap heat race, and only the top to transfer to the main. I gained two positions but I would have to run the consi race to make my way to the feature. I was staged in the sixth spot of the second last chance qualifier race which was scheduled to be 12 laps in distance. On the initial start, I immediately went to the top, passing two cars in the first set of corners. In the three and four and gained ground on third place. On the second lap I came out of corner two on the high side and a car's rear end slid right in front of me. With nowhere to go, I rear ended the driver in front of me, causing a yellow flag. After four laps of pacing under a yellow and putting me back in the fourth spot, the track officials then decided to move me to the back of the car pack. Once the green flag dropped, I again ran the cushion. In three laps a caution fell for another spinning driver, and I was up to fourth,. When the race restarted, I raced the high side, which included a very close call for me. As I made a pass for third, the racer drifted up high sending my right rear sliding into the wall. When the checkered dropped, I ended up in second place with not much space between the leader and I. In the 30 lap feature event I started in the 18th position. I was up to the 14th spot when I jumped the cushion causing me to fall back to 16th when the feature was over.

Hartford Motor Speedway on Friday night and La Salle Speedway on Saturday night.

- Friday, July, 31st, In order to give my dad a very special birthday present, we attended the Lane Automotive 45 at the “wicked half mile” (Hartford) which was being co-sanctioned by A.L.M.S (American Late Model Series), O.D.L.M.S (Ontario Dirt Late Model Series), and lastly N.A.L.M.S (Northern All-stars Late Model Series). This event had a $4,500 to win purse, and not to mention $45 lap prize money and also $200 to the leader at the half way point of the 45 lap race. The night started out very lucky, as my session finished up with hot lapping, I decided to go out in another group to get pumped up for the night. Well while I was out there, the left rear tire blew, and I consider that lucky because if that did not happen in hot laps, the tire would have blew in the heat race which would result in a DNF. But with my draw number so well, 9, I started second in the second heat race which was ten laps in distance. As soon as the green flag dropped, I was told that it seemed like I shot out of a cannon. I lead the first lap by half of a straight away with Frank Heckenast Jr. behind me. This was a confidence booster to me, but it soon came to a crumble. As I turned into corner one, the car was extremely hard to turn for some reason. As the race went on the harder it was for me to turn and the farther I went back. When the heat was over, I finished fifth. After removing the hood, my dad told me that the power steering belt had fallen off. Well we replaced that belt and I started in the 15th position, thanks to the belt falling off. Once the green flag dropped, I was moving up steadily. In eight laps I was up to the 12th spot when all of a sudden a car bounced off the wall and slid literally right in front of me. With nowhere to go, I made contact with him and my night ended resulting in a DNF which marked me in the 19th position. What a bad way to start off my dads’ birthday weekend.

- Saturday, August 1, My dad and I woke up early to get the car back together for the N.A.L.M.S race at La Salle Speedway. We successfully finished the car and got to the track on time with about an hour to spare. This race was scheduled to be $2,000 to win and 40 laps, with no consolation races. The series created three groups which were randomized. You would qualify against your own group and heat race against your own group, but consy and feature races were mixed. I qualified fifth best in my group out of nine which was disappointing as La Salle is one of my favorites. In the heat race, I put the backup beepers on, as the car got tighter and tighter as the race progressed. When the checkered dropped, I was finished in the eighth spot, and believe me, I was happy that it was over. During the heat race I endured some sheet metal damage, and in order to race the feature we had to get it away from the tires to avoid tire damage as well. As soon as we got the sheet metal off of the car, there was an announcement made saying “Late Model consy cars get up here”. I looked at the board and noticed my number there. I thought it was weird because at the drivers meeting the promoter said “no consy races for any classes tonight.” We then rushed to get the car ready to race, luckily we made it in time and I rolled on the track in the fifth spot, with the top three transferring on to the main. On the start I passed three cars, but then went back to the third position as the outside racer had the momentum. I moved into the second position before the checkered flag dropped. I lined up in the 17th position for the 30 lap feature event, it was supposed to be 40 laps. I raced my way up five positions and was racing against the likes of Kevin Weaver, Steve Sheppard and Scott Schmidt. When the checkered waved, I was finished in the 12th spot.

Hartford Motor Speedway on Friday night and Kamp Motor Speedway on Saturday night.

- Friday, July 24th, We drove to Hartford Michigan to race again at the half mile, Hartford Motor Speedway. On the way there we stopped at NAC Racing Engines to get some motor work done before we raced it hard for two nights straight. We got to the track with minor work to be done on the car (gear change and shock adjustments). After the drivers meeting, it was time to allow the motor to get up to temperature and get the oil running through the motor. The engine would not idle. Come to find out that the gasket was leaking air through causing motor to run high in RPM. My dad grabbed an old gasket that was for his engine when he raced and put silicone around the leaking gasket. I could not get on the track until the silicone was dry or else it would be sucked into the intake of the engine causing more damage. I was egger to get to racing so when the feature line up was called up I was already in the car. I was put at the tail end of the field due to the fact of me not starting the heat race. At the 14th lap (out of 20), the yellow light came on as the temperature on the motor was at 230-240 degrees, so I pulled off and was scored in the 14th position.

- Saturday, July 25th, We woke up in Merryville, IN and we drove back to NAC Racing Engines so we could get the motor back together so I could at least race at Kamp Motor Speedway tonight.  As soon I we got to Kamp it was an immediate rush, as we had to switch the chassis adjustments from Friday night’s race to the track conditions at Kamp. I qualified quite well for myself; I bobbled once the whole qualifying session with my foot flat on the gas pedal. My qualifying time put me in the first heat starting in the ninth position. In those eight laps I only gained an eighth place finish. That finish set me up for the ten lap consolation race which I started in the fourth position. I finished in that exact same spot. Luckily they took the top 5 from the consi race as I to start in the 20th position for the 40 lap main event. In the 20 laps I only moved up to a 17th finish. I was satisfied with my overall finish I was competing against national racers such as Dennis Erb, Jason Feger, and Frank Heckanast.

- Catch me at Hartford on Friday, July 31 as we celebrate Mike’s birthday at the Lane 45 featuring NALMS, ODLM, and ALMS, and LaSalle on Saturday, August 1 for the NALMS series race.
