Just back from Fontana after racing the SRC Winter Series final race. Saturday morning practice was graced by cool weather and overcast skies. The course was fun and fast. As the day progressed the dry, dusty course saw deep ruts in the corners getting even deeper and deeper. You just new by race time on Sunday the course would be different and many of the lines you practiced would be forever changed. Sunday rolled around with the same weather (thank goodness) and a good sized crowd of racers and spectators. The Pro Women's class was graced by 9 entrants. Oh what fun it has been to move up to the Pro Women's class and have other women to race in a highly competitive field. I ended up with a solid run with an 8th place finish. In addition, I placed 3rd overall for the overall series. A very proud day for me, indeed!

Round 5 of the SRC Winter Series is now history. Saturday practice met us with dry, dusty conditions and temps in the high 80's. I headed up the hill early before the shuttles started to test out my new Fox 40 RC2 newly installed Friday night. The fork is 1.2 lbs lighter than my previous for (888) and the bike now weighs in at a mere 38.8 lbs!!! After numerous adjustments and fine tuning I finally got it dialed in. Now all I have to do is learn how to adjust my riding to adpat to the lighter front end. Amazing how everything changes when you cut the poundage. Sunday welcomed us with horendous wind and temps in the 90's. I had drunk 5 bottles of water before practice even started. I headed up the mountain early to get in a run or two before the shuttle started and to get my lines dialed in. Well, with the wind gusts, that was not in the cards. By the time the race started, it was granny gear for most of the race, and pedalling like crazy just to keep moving forward. I got blown over several times during my race run, making for an exciting run just trying to stay upright. Not a stellar performance, but no blood shed and no crashes. :-) I came in 6th missing the podium by 1. I was in 2nd in the point standings after race 4, waiting to see how that changes after race 5.
