The 4th round of the SRC Fontana Winter series was marked by cool temperatures and cloudy skies, with only a threat of rain Sunday afternoon. The Pro Women's class had an excellent turnout with 10 women signed up and 9 competing. The course was tacky and fast Saturday morning, but turned to the infamous Fontana sand and silt in the afternoon. Practice was quite entertaining with riders going hot and heavy into the corners and preceeding to slide out in a plume of dust. The course had a few semi-technical sections with a lot of off camber sections and turns. The temperature Sunday morning was quite crisp causing my suspension to be a tad off and crying to be warmed up. I went too hot in one section and ended up waded up in one of the g-outs. Rung my bell pretty good, hitting my head and bashing my left quad. Had to sit for a while to gather my wits and then back to practice. Finally had a clean practice run then headed up for my race run. Had a clean run, but not fast enough to podium. Time to step it up! All in all in was a fantastic weekend. The next race is in 2 weeks.

The 3rd round of the SRC Winter Series has come and gone. Saturday was hot and dusty. Nailed all the lines and prepared for Sunday. I woke up at 4am to the sound of pouring rain. Not having much experience in the mud (I' m a Socal girl) we set out to have fun in the sludge. Practice was fun, but every run was different and the rain kept coming. When I got to the top of the hill before my race run, every rut had become a river. My race run reminded me of riding a Slip N' Slide (one of those great toys from the 70's). I was cautious and managed to stay upright but it cost me the podium. I guess more mud training is in order. :-)
