Below on this page are pictures of all the parks pretty much an hour or less from where I live! Watertown (5 minutes from my house) is free and has no fence, no supervision, no helmet/pads required, but the ramps (metal) all have wacky imperfections, the asphalt is kinda rough, and there is a lot of litter and riff-raff there sometimes. I have heard there are talks of improving it. Fort Drum (10 minutes from my house) has THREE parks of all metal ramps! None have any fees, but you gotta be able to get onto Fort Drum. The Youth Services Center park is fenced in open only during certain supervised hours (and require at least helmets), but the other two have no supervision and the posted helmet/pads requirements have never been enforced anytime I've skated there. The Adirondack Community Center park's ramps and rails are more for bikes than boards. Philadelphia (20 minutes from my home) has some old tennis courts that the town has given the skaters, but it's up to the skaters to bring ramps. Antwerp (20+ minutes from my house) is free, has a fence but isn't locked, has no supervision, and a sign says helmets are required but I've never seen anyone wear one there. It's an old tennis court, and the wooden ramps are often victims of northern NY weather. Indian River Estates (25 minutes away) near Theresa is a mobile home community where the locals turned the basketball courts into a skating area, and there are no rules or requirements or any kind. The ramps are wooden and kinda sketchy, but the locals are nice and friendly :) Theresa (just under 30 minutes away) has had a skate area that is free from any requirements to skate, but has also been the poorest quality designated skate area around. It's on some old tennis courts, the ramps are busted, and the picnic tables and rails have been removed, and I heard that the town isn't gonna allow skating there eventually and is going to turn it into a playground. Lafargeville (just under 30 mins away) opened a park on 9/27/08 that is free from any requirements, and the ramps are quality Sunramp equipment. Carthage (around 30 minutes away) has awesome metal ramps, but it requires you to fill out some paperwork and wear a sticker on your helmet (but the park is worth it!), has a locked fence after hours, and there is park security/law enforcement there to enforce it! Gouverneur (30+ minutes away) is also really nice (masonite and metal ramps). It used to have a locked fence, limited hours, LOTS of rules, enforcing supervisors, and require a waiver and wearing a helmet, BUT as of 2009, ALL OF THAT HAS CHANGED!! Pulaski (30+ minutes away) is really nice (metal ramps) but costs like $1.50 each time (unless you buy a season pass) and requires you to fill out a waiver and wear a helmet. Mexico, NY (40-45 minutes away) got a nice big wooden outdoor park in the summer of 2008. It doesn't appear to cost anything to skate, but it has a fence and is locked when not open, and my bet is that you have to wear a helmet to ride (it was raining when I went there to skate it, so I don't know the requirements for sure). Onondaga Lake Park in Liverpool/Syracuse (just under an hour away) requires a waiver, helmets, $3 per session, and has supervision and a locked fence, but it is a nice concrete park. Boonville (just under an hour away) had no conditions to skate, but the park ramps (wood, nothing fancy) have not been put back out in 2007 since they were moved for the winter. In 2006 the local skaters said a new park is supposed to be getting built in 2007. No updates known. Ogdensburg (1 hour away) is really nice (metal and hard black rubber surface ramps on an old tennis court). Park hours are 12pm-9pm daily. No fees or waivers required, but everyone usually weas a helmet so I wear mine also. Oswego's Red Planet indoor skatepark (1 hour away) is fun (all wood), but scary when the bikes are in there (and the park is designed more for bikes than skateboards). It seems to get redesigned regularly. They charge money and require a waiver and helmet. In 2006 my friend Brian Demott was holding "Skate Church" there (free skating and spiritual food-for-thought discussion time) but has stopped doing that until further notice.

Anyone, please feel free to come visit!! We'll skate the local spots, and/or the skate parks pictured on my Blog page.
Andy Roberts and Paul Suleski have come for a couple of visits, and the guys from Rochester's Solid Rock Skate Team have come once, and a bunch of other people have come considerable distances for the church winter skate jams I was hosting in 2006-2008, and we had a blast skating! Thanks guys! Sorry if I forgot anyone else who has visited!
