Hazardous Pro-AM Support Kart Racer Sean Conyers Wins His Third and Fourth PKRA Cadet Championships

May 24, 2008.  Formula K Kart Track in Phoenix, AZ.

In the HPV 1 Cadet series, Sean Conyers had to drive hard and get a little help to clinch the Championship as he was trailing Beau Briske by 19 points.  That little help came to Sean when Beau stalled his kart in the Heat race and he would start the Main event in last.  Then, as the Main started, again, Beau's engine pooped out and left him on the side of the track as he watched his points lead run away with the #20 kart.  Sean's kart was on fire as he ran away from the field and crossed the finish line with an astonishing 11 second lead ahead of second place.

Also "gettin 'er done" in the Rookie Sportsman series, Sean was in high gear and running fast.  With an 80 point cushion ahead of second place Jim McKinney in the Rookie Sportsman series, Sean knew he only needed to finish 8th or better to clinch the Championship.  But Sean doesn't know how to "take it easy" in a race car.  He went for the Pole position and got it, then he went for the win in the first heat race and got it, then he led the Main event up until the last lap where he got stuck behind a lap kart.  That was just enough for Jim McKinney to catch Sean and make a last lap pass on the backstraight to take away the win.  It wasn't enough to take the Championship though as Sean's second place finish kept him 45 points in the lead.

"Everything was perfect tonight.", stated a very happy Sean. "My dad did a great job with the karts, they were fast."

We are headed to California again next weekend for another IKF regional show-down at Calspeed in Fontana.

Kart Racer Sean Conyers has a Tough Weekend at Willow

May 4, 2008.  Willow Springs Kart Track at Rosamond, CA.

Friday practice was hectic as Sean and his pit crew worked hard to find good setups.  The karts were loose all day and didn't seem to react to the changes that were made.

Saturday morning, Sean qualified 7th in the Rookie Sportsman class and struggled throughout the day with a loose kart to finish 13th in the Main.  The Junior 1 kart had trouble in the heat race when a loose throttle link put Sean in the pits early and forced him to start the Main Event in last place (24th).  Sean worked hard to make as many passes as he could.  He made 9 passes in 13 laps and found his way to 15th place.  Sean was working for a position on the next kart and finally found a jump on the front stretch at the end of lap 17.  When he was just finishing the pass on the 14th place kart, he was kicked sideways and off the track.  Sean kept his kart running and got back on the track to finish the race in 20th.

Sunday was just as challenging as the the other days.  The HPV cadet kart was loose all day.  Sean qualified 18th and finished the Heat race in 17th.  He got a lucky break on the first turn of the Main Event when some of the front runners got jumbled up.  Sean kept his eyes open and weaved his way through the traffic to get into 8th place.  The kart, however, wasn't responding well and Sean managed to save a 13th place finish.

"We have days like this, it's just racing." Sean stated, "We'll get the karts back like they should be and do it better next month."

Seans next IKF Region 7 event will be in Fontana, California at Calspeed Kart Track on May 30, 31, and June 1.

Sean always thanks his race team: Mom and Dad, his Engine Builders: Ron Hall (KAOS), Doug Fleming, Position One Motorsports, and his great sponsors: Hazardous Sports, Amsoil LubricantsProclean 1000, Tekbolt, RB Components.  And always Curtis Ruth at Innovative Karting, for supplying him with the fast Intrepid karts and racing supplies.
