Engine Trouble Sidelines Schwartz Racing
August 14, 2009

Sacramento, CA -- Bearing failure during test runs caused the newly finished alcohol-fueled S10 pickup driven by Cyndee Schwartz to sit out Sacramento Raceway’s Famous Fox Hunt. Schwartz had planned to compete in the Pro Gas class for the first time this season.

“Even though this was disappointing for me, my team, and our sponsors, at least we know what caused the failure and are working to build a stronger bottom end for the engine,” Schwartz stated. She also went on to say that this will not damper the plans to compete at the Governor’s Cup, held in September at the same track.

Updates

After a very long wait, I finally hit the 1/4 mile to do a few shakedown runs in the Schwartz Racing S10 over the last weekend. The first couple of passes were disappointing - but a good learning experience. There is too much torque going to the rear end for the rear end to handle, and the truck spun like crazy trying to launch.
So, I tried again, but this time launching from a mere idle. The truck clocked a 10.96 at 119 mph. The fuel pressure was getting a little whacky so I lifted a bit to save the engine from damage. I found out later that the battery voltage was shakey due to a bad ground.
I'm going back out to do a bit more testing this Friday to get ready for the upcoming Fox Hunt at Sacramento Raceway.

We completely sympathize. Ground Zero spun out three rods last year and this will be her first race since then. Look for a green Mack, we'll be there.
