Q&A - Personal

Some Personal Information About Me:

For those of you who don't know me, I am a 31-year-old female, who was born and lived the first 26 years of my life in Mississauga, Ontario, Canada. Up until the end of high school, I very actively participated in baton twirling, competing at the local, Provincial and National levels as well as coaching beginner athletes for 4 years. I also participated in BMX racing, attending local races once or twice a week, completed the Ontario plate series races and attended enough U.S. NBL national races to get a U.S. number up until I was in my second year of university. In 1996 I was a recipient of the NBL’s Bob Warnicke Memorial Scholarship. In 2001, I graduated from university with an honors bachelor of accounting degree, and in 2003 I earned my professional designation as a Chartered Accountant. I am currently working as a manager at a mid-sized accounting firm in Toronto. In November of 2008 I started BMX racing again and I am looking forward to the spring and racing on the outdoor tracks in Ontario.

Q&A - Competition

How did you get started?

My older brother raced for two years. I would sometimes go to the track and watch him racing. It looked fun and I wanted to try it. His bike was too big for me, so my brother and dad put together a bike from parts they found that other people were throwing out. I started out with a bike that was a second hand no-name bike. My very first race was the last race of the season and it started to rain in the middle of the motos. It became so slippery and muddy that I could not even make it up the big step up. By the end of the third moto I was covered in mud and had so much fun that I could not wait for the next racing season to begin in the spring.

What are you planning for next season?

In 2009 I am planning on making it out to as many local races as possible, as well as racing in the Ontario series. Depending on how my first season back racing again goes, I may participate in the Canadian National championship race.
