Christmas Classic
The 07 NBL season is underway. I headed out to Columbus to see how I could do after being a full time student working toward my teaching degree for the past few years. After checking in to the hotel and running into many of old friends, I finally found my way to the track. It has been a few years since I have been to a national other than the Midwest National, so I was stoked to be here.
Tuesday is practice day. I get in the gate and SNAP, I still have it; I'm spinning, I'm jumping, I'm pulling before jumps, I feel ready for the national.
Thursday comes around. Moto one, slam the gate, go to early. After a finish line protest, pull a third. Not bad. Moto 2 (of a 2 moto transfer system), I feel myself unclip, I try to clip back in, but nothing is happening. I look down, I pulled my pedal right off of the spindle. I ride off the track the best I can, take my last place and go fix my bike.
Friday is here, national day 2. Moto one, fixed pedal, I snap out, un-clip again. This time I clip back in and pass one rider to get myself into the mix. Moto 2, get the hole shot and take the win from start to finish, in the main event in 25-29 expert. I'm stoked, check the moto board for the mains and I pull gate 8. Oh well, I'll ride my race and see what happens. Some carnage occurs in the second turn and I can't avoid it, take 6th for the day. Pack up and head home to Chicago.
