Las Vegas, NV
Las Vegas Motor Speedway
06/27/208
WERA racer Corey Baum completed his second WERA national race this last weekend at Las Vegas Motor Speedway in Las Vegas, Nevada. Despite the raging heat soaring to over 115 degrees at times Baum managed to keep his focus and provide some results that surprised everyone.Baum managed to beat his personal best lap time this weekend by nearly 3 seconds, and put down an impressive 1:23.774. “Thanks to the support from my pit mates between races, I was able to beat the heat and focus on the races ahead.”
With some last minute cooling advice from Faron Krader at GixxerTek consulting, Baum managed to survive the weekend and keep his bike within optimum operating temp. “With Faron’s advice I was able to keep the bike cool, while the rest of the field was dealing with overheating issues, when the heat was at its hottest.”
Throughout the adverse racing conditions Baum managed to place; 4th in 750 Superbike, 6th in 750 Superstock, 5th in 600 Superbike, 7th in 600 Superstock.
Corey will be racing next at AutoClub Speedway (Fontana) on August 3rd. Be sure to check www.coreybaum.com for the latest results.
Corey would like to especially thank his friends and family for their outstanding support this weekend. “Everyone was so supportive, it was relieving to be able to put everything else aside and focus on racing” says Baum.

Brandon Bones, Studio819 WERA racer Corey Baum entered his first WERA national race this weekend at Miller Motorsports Park. Weather was questionable all weekend with both hot and cold temperatures as well as rain on the Saturday morning practice. Baum, the Lacey, WA native, took the time to test his Dunlop shod GSXR 600 in the rain pulling low 2.30's in his few laps of practice. "Plenty of grip compared to what I'm used to racing on back home" said Baum. Sunday's practice was in the dry and Baum took the time to get settled on the bike in race conditions. With the bike having no updated suspension, fueling maps or slicks Baum knew he would have to be at his best this weekend, especially considering the races were only 4 laps, starting in 17th position of the grid was also something he would have to contend with for the races. Baum stunned most though, with even the corner workers shouting through the radios about how many bikes he was passing in each turn. Moving through the grid from the start and maintaining spectacular control in his first race Baum ended up taking second place in 600 Supersport. "A better grid position or one more lap and I have no doubt Corey would have won the race." mentioned one of his team mates. Baum continued his streak by entering the 750 class on his stock 600 and clearly taking 3rd place. "Being down on power engine to engine I knew it would be a hard race, not to mention starting back in 12th position. Great racing the whole time!" Baum also entered in the 600 Superbike class but on the 2nd lap he was bounced out of his seat hard, smashing his helmet into his windscreen and saving a monster of a highside while attempting a pass for 4th place. Baum shook it off and chased down the leaders but didn't have the time left to take a higher position and finished a very commendable 5th place.
Baum, who has yet to complete his inaugural year in road racing, has enjoyed success in the WERA series this season with multiple podium finishes and is looking forward to the upcoming national races in Las Vegas on the weekend of the 28th. Corey sincerely thanks his sponsors for his success;

This last week, April 1st , 2nd, and 3rd I attended the 3-Day Jason Pridmores Star School at Thunderhill raceway located in Willows, CA. which consisted of a normal 2-day school and a 1-day Pro school that is only offered to previous students twice a year. During the two day school, Jason Pridmore and his instructors focused on teaching us a wide array of new techniques such as; advanced steering, shifting, and braking, body position, line selection, tire managements, suspension and chassis setup.
The School did an outstanding job in class of explaining how to perform these different techniques, and also backed up everything up with on track demonstrations and one on one help from the instructors. By practicing these new techniques I was quickly able to learn Thunderhill raceway. The benefits to my riding ability could be seen immediately. With every lap I found myself extending my brake markers, braking deeper and later than ever before and practicing my new techniques. I am now consistently running faster, smoother laps while staying calm and focused.
The Star School Instructors did an excellent job from the class room to the race track. The School exceeded all of my expectations and maintained a successful learning environment. Jason's "No-Ego" personality was exhibited by himself and his entire staff which was beneficial in bringing the group together as a whole and putting everyone on the same level.
Thanks to all of my sponsors for your unparalleled support and providing me with this opportunity. This new found knowledge will continue to prove itself worthy in the upcoming races and throughout my entire racing career. My next race will be with WERA on April 12th & 13th at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. Please be sure to check out my website www.coreybaum.com for the info.

Baum scores podium on second time out in WERA races
Fontana, CA 1-13-08
by Brandon Bones, Studio819
California Speedway, yet another track in a long list that newcomer Corey Baum has yet to hit but still excels at. The 24 year old Lacey, WA resident struck out for gold in the California sun and hit pay dirt. In the Saturday practice Baum was plagued by clutch issues on his 05 GSXR 750 but after a late night rebuild took the reigns in 750 Superbike and pulled in his first National podium with a 3rd place finish astonishing pit mates and locals. Baum, riding on a near stock Suzuki surprised himself with his podium finish since he had never seen the track before. "I just went out there to to do the best I could and when I pitted in my pit mates were cheering for me and telling me I had taken 3rd in the race" says Baum, " I couldn't believe it!" With a full s chedule ahead at AMA tracks such as Infineon, Millers Motorsports Park and a return to California Speedway as well as a possible trip to Laguna Seca for the final AMA round of 2008, Baum is extremely excited to see what he can accomplish. "Corey has only been racing for 6 months and the majority of it has been just at local racing tracks here in Washington" said photographer and sponsor Brandon Bones of Studio819, "the sky is the limit for Corey, who knows what he could accomplish on updated equipment and such, I mean, do realize that Corey is besting folks on their home tracks with outdated equipment on his first showing at a track. We are more then happy to sponsor him, he really shows the level of excitement in racing both on and off the track." Baum is next scheduled to race at the next WERA round at LVMS as well as at Infineon with AFM, both in April.
Corey would like to thank his sponsors; Studio819, Climacover, Paulsons Motorsports, LeoVince USA, Kicker, Braking USA, PowerStands, Sidi, RMR Suspensions, Suomy, Lockhart Phillips, Freestyle watches, Shark Skinz, and Utopia Optics.

Baum explodes onto the WERA scene. This weekend capped off the 2007 WERA season at Las Vegas Motor Speedway and while most riders were seeing this as the end, one rider in particular was getting his first taste of national level riding. Lacey, WA resident Corey Baum arrived for the final race and competed in the novice level 750 Superstock and Superbike races and surprised WERA officials and racers alike. Having only seen an aerial photo of the track and one 10 minute practice on Saturday morning, Baum proceeded to drop his lap times from 1.33 during practice to a surprisingly competitive 1.25 during the Saturday race and captured 9th overall in a 21 bike grid. Even more surprising was that Baum captured that 9th place after he had run off the track in turn one on the 3rd lap and was relegated to last place by the time he returned from the run off area. Sunday’s races saw more of the steady times and even a better 7th place finish in the 8 lap sprint race after being gridded nearly last.
The 23 year old only started racing in the Washington Motorcycle Road Racing Association (WMRRA) in July of this year after doing a scant few track days at Pacific Raceways in Kent, WA. Riding on a near stock 2005 GSXR 750, Baum’s ability to quickly adapt to different situations and track configurations have been a key to his success this season after winning 2 out of 6 of the Novice races he competed in and capturing a 3rd in the wet.
“This was a great way to end the season.” Corey says “This provided me with the opportunity to see what else lies beyond the local club racing. I really enjoyed chasing down some new faces, can’t wait to do it again.”
“We are very proud of Corey this weekend” says Bones, “What is even better is we see vast room for improvement in regards to gearing and suspension settings as there were no changes made to the bike since his last race in Washington (back in early October). This being his first outing to a new track and doing so well really ends this season on a sweet note, we are eagerly looking forward to the 2008 season and plan on being at California Speedway in January…this time as an expert”
