Questions Answered

What inspires you to compete?

I am a very competitive person and I am constantly looking to better myself whether it be as a person or an athlete - it all goes hand in hand.

Do you train? What does your schedule look like?

I train constantly. I try to think of it as more for fun so that I dont look at it as 'work', although I know what it is for. I go on a cross country ride almost every day, the local BMX track once or twice a week, dirt jump and ride street regularly, and during the winter months I hit the gym.

Why do you like this sport?

This sport is not only fun, but it is a thrill. It is very physically and mentally demanding and when you do well in a race or accomplish something that you thought was scary/hard, its very satisfying. Biking keeps me mentally on my toes, in good physical shape, and it gives my life a bit more structure.

Do you like to travel? What's your best (clean) road trip story?

I love to travel when I get the chance. This past summer, three buddies and myself drove up to Bromont, Quebec in Canada to race and then directly after the race drove back down to Virginia and a few days later left on a road trip out west to ride dirtbikes, mountainbikes, hike, camp, and race the national championships at Sol Vista, Colorado. Unfortunately, illness kept us from racing in Sol Vista.

Some Personal Information About Me:

In 2006 at Brianhead, Utah at a race I tore all the ligaments in my left shoulder. Once I had healed from that injury I went to a local race just to have fun and ended up having the most serious accident of my life to date; I snappedmy femur in half. A rod was put in my leg and then 4 months later I was in a car accident and the rod went through my knee breaking my distal femur into 4 pieces. After a reconstructive surgery, a plate in my knee, 14 screws, 2 pins, a bigger rod in my femur, and 9 months total on crutches, and 2 years later I am finally back in good physical shape and well enough to be competive in biking.
